i'm surprised we still use coins. it seems every ten years they say they are going to do away with them....Banks.. don't get me started , well too late ...
At my local store, figuring the cashier's wage per hour, divided by 60, and multiplied by 5 (assuming a 5' checkout, which is an overestimate in most situations one would be using the self-checkout)...and adjusting for the one cashier covering all self-checkouts...that would amount to well under a dollar. My store gives me ample other incentives to shop there, customer service being primary, that it's a moot point.
have you ever tried looking up vegetables on your own at check out ,, are they red apples or granny mays??? its hard
😭 If you can't figure it out...that's precisely why there is an attendent for each bank of self-checkouts. It's really not that hard...if you know you intend to use the self-checkout, pay attention to what you are buying. (Hint: It pays to do so anyway, as many cashiers don't know either if there is no tag on the produce.)
Grocery stores are also notorious for have way more empty lanes then open... what do they do with all those extra check out lanes. I bet they have a fresh one from when they build the store that they never opened before, the register still has the original stickers on it. When did they ever think they were gonna open 14 Lanes.
Wanna pay for all those lanes being open unnecessarily? That would further reduce your >$1 discount for using self-checkout. For them to have enough lanes open for you to walk right up to an open lane at any given time would increase the costs to all exponentially. Welp, there goes everyone's savings.
The whole model is old fashioned … Seems like a lot of theft is happening so there are a lot of things out of my control that effect prices … waiting in the line is a problem that seems fixable and as a paying customer should be a priority
They know when they have rushes and have more on the registers at those times. Occasionally, a rush happens unexpectedly, and lines get backed up. No one can predict every odd rush or have extra workers waiting around just in case.
There are new fixes being used/introduced now. The self-checkouts being one. You can also place your order online and schedule a pickup, or have it delivered. One that they are talking about is having a phone app where people scan the items as they put them in the cart...I don't think that has as yet been implemented anywhere, though.
ok but the people not using the self check out cost us all more money right??? Is why people(like me ) lowering the bottom line should reap those benifits
you agree with corporation raising prices for cost... thank you for being idealistic enough to expect those corporations to lower their prices … I think it's called deflation i'm not sure because it's never been done
Any business must price things to cover their costs, or they won't be in business long. If they don't cover their costs + make a profit, they serve no business purpose.
Businesses lower prices all the time!
The self-checkout came into being because people bitched about waiting in line (i.e. as a convenience for customers). Most people feel they've gotten their <$1 benefit in time saved.
Try out the online order/pickup at WW...there is no extra charge. But then you probably won't and will bitch even more that you are using self-checkout and should get an even bigger discount. Lol...get a life.
