+27 If college wasn't so expensive maybe we would have more medical professionals available. amirite?

We have a shortage of doctors and yet medical school is still nearly impossible to get in. Turns out they care about prestige more than the increasing death rate that could have been prevented.

Even if they could get in , soooo much money. I just rewatched a movie called 21 and the whole premise basically is the kid learns to count cards at Casinos to pay for medical school. He's crazy smart but doesn't have 300,000 dollars.

To be fair, likely very few people who attend medical school have $300,000. It is easy to quality for a loan of this magnitude, due to earning potential. And it's one degree that will almost certainly pay off, whereas other degrees do not necessarily pay off. It shouldn't be that way, so I take your point. But I disagree that cost is the primary limiting factor here.

Not primary but a big one. Let's say you have the same person with basically the same grades but one comes from a single income family that doesn't make that much and is financially a higher risk. Banks are gonna go with the safer bet because 300k is a lot of money. Yes scholarships exist but not everyone is gonna get those.

Plus after school they may realize blood is icky ... Money is a terrible motivation for a career... Because we all just want money, not a fulfilling career that we are good at that we like doing.. We misplace people in jobs Because unqualified people expect to make as much as the actual jobs that are hard that we need for society. If your degree cant pay for your career maybe you should have went to commuinity college, or did u even have a part time job thru college... Face it, your first thrust into financial freedom is a trap, did you learn anything about finance??? No one forced you to spend that money , its like failing your first test.

This is very much the case in my field (clinical psychology). Getting a doctorate can cost up to $200k, but the usual salary for psychologists doesn't justify this much debt. That's why programs like the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program are so essential.

Education should just be for free.

Then everyone would be a specialist. Who's gonna unclog my toilet, or fix my car, serve me my wine..etc.?

by Anonymous 4 years ago

We are supposed to do those things ourselves

by Anonymous 4 years ago

I suppose. Just kinda pointing out that we all can't have college degrees, it takes all kinds of people to make this world go 'round. Peace.

We werent born to serve you

by Anonymous 4 years ago

Perhaps, but we all serve someone. You serve your boss, and I, my customers, boss, wife, whomever it happens to be. We need laymen. If everyone had a college degree, garbage men would be in high demand and therefore would probably make more money than a college grad. There's a bit of logic to that. Peace.

The monetery system is what forces us to work... Work is a slave owner invented word... It used to be called survive, but when we all take care of ourselves that means the lazy people actually would have to do the laborious things in their life, so instead of doing their fair share of work, money was created to force soneone else to do it....we are all slaves and money is our shackles~

Very true. Thus, we are born to serve.
