I see your point from a conservation of energy perspective. We are all star stuff and shall return to the earth from whence we came! Think the waste would be in the production and transportation etc. Not the energy value in the food itself, although it's still a waste to feed bacteria in my book. There's people hungry all over.

Yes that's absolutely right. I only wanted to state that it's not a complete waste of a resource as it's expressed by some people :).
