The BMI system really doesn't work for amputated people, amirite?
by Anonymous4 years ago
It doesn't work at all. It doesn't take into account body composition. Someone 5'3" at 180lbs is going to read as obese if they're 50% bodyfat or 2% bodyfat.

It works well as a baseline/estimate.

Is that the bodypart missing index?

Yeah it does, you still use your weight/fat. It doesn't matter how many limbs you lose, you just have a lower weight overall so a higher bmi most likely.

BMI only works in conjuncture with physical ability tests and actual fat measurements such as using a caliper.

They need to use another calculator, but can get a BMI. .. just can't use the simplified formula.
