It doesn't work at all. It doesn't take into account body composition. Someone 5'3" at 180lbs is going to read as obese if they're 50% bodyfat or 2% bodyfat.

Yeah it does, you still use your weight/fat. It doesn't matter how many limbs you lose, you just have a lower weight overall so a higher bmi most likely.

BMI only works in conjuncture with physical ability tests and actual fat measurements such as using a caliper.

They need to use another calculator, but can get a BMI. .. just can't use the simplified formula. http://touchcalc.com/calculators/bmi_amputation
