The G stands for graphics; and other one-syllable words with a G in first and vowel in 2nd position are all glottal. Gift, get, give, etc. These are two reasons why the inventor's claim has only caused more reason to debate. I say reason... of course it's silly to debate the pronunciation of a word to this extent. I guess that's the internet for you.
