Some shells on the beach are over 40 000 years old and come from small animals, therefore if the animals where the shells come from all of a sudden go extinct, we wouldn't know untill 40 000 years later. amirite?

Yes we would because everything animal has a measureable effect on the ecosystem and we would most likely see a huge influx of those shells washing up if it were that sudden and marine biologists would be on it pretty quick
