Using -any- single word is not a strong password. Thats the first thing a brute force to crack it will try, the program will just run straight through the dictionary

Not quite. Password cracking isn't done by people, it's done by machines. The first thing any competent password cracker will try is an index of common passwords, usually followed by a dictionary attack. If it's ever been common or it contains any common combination of real words then it will be cracked by one of these two methods.
