+69 For depressed people, walking around with a mouth covering is a nice way to not have to worry about forcing smiles when you really don't want to. amirite?

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Not having to full-on smile at work anymore is genuinely a positive. Just give a lil eye squint and people get the gist nowadays

Growing up I never understood how adults could always be so fake to each other... now as an adult, after trying to not be fake for 10 years, I've found that being fake - is wayyyyy easier than making any kind of friction.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

For me, there's a happy medium in being polite with people to avoid friction, without being fake and pretending you're friends.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I'll go with friction. Maintaining a lie takes way more energy.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I just pretend people I don't like don't exist. But only if I genuinely dislike them. It helps that I keep to myself typically, so those people just assume I'm not sociable and don't come to me im the first place. But among friends, I can get *wild*.

Me irl

Retail workers too, although most if not all are depressed.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Except people who pay attention can see the sadness in your eyes

by Anonymous 3 years ago

"Oh dont worry, I'm not sad, just tired"

by Anonymous 3 years ago

This is literally what I say to my mom every single time I see her and she asks why I seem "quiet"

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I just say I don't feel good

by Anonymous 3 years ago

They're also good for lip syncing the lyrics to whatever song is on in stores without embarrassment.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Or just for women, too.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

or if you have anxiety, maybe not for everyone but for me, covering my face helps with my anxiety for some reason.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Me too

by Anonymous 3 years ago

And it covers resting bitch face. People treat me so much nicer now!

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I try to tell this to my mom but she goes on about how "bIlL gAtEs Is EnSlAvInG uS"

by Anonymous 3 years ago

This is totally unrelated, and forgive me I am unaware...why do so many people think that bill gates has anything to do with this, or vaccines or any such thing in general?

by Anonymous 3 years ago

idk, all I know is my mom and her 15,000 strong Facebook group believe that he is one of the "heads of the Antichrist" along with Anthony Fauci and Kamala Harris. Those people are nuts, man

by Anonymous 3 years ago

It's the fuzziest of thinking. People see a terrifying problem. They see experts offering a solution to the problem. They correlate the two. The experts are the problem. Trump understands this kind of thinking. He won't be the solution because it will associate him with the problem. And he encourages blaming experts to further distance himself.

Don't look anyone in the eye if you don't have to. Can't make everyone happy, can't make everyone like you. You'll just drive yourself mad !

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I hate making eye contact but I find it's somewhat easier when the other person is wearing a mask. I don't know why.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

The mask works like an equalizer.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I've actually been taking advantage of this works great lol

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Face coverings are depressing for happy people who want others to see them smile. So win win for depressed people.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

It's not like forced smiles actually convince people of much. They're typically just too polite to point it out

by Anonymous 3 years ago

But I've spent years perfecting my fake smile and I just involuntarily do it under my mask anyways

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Yet I still find myself doing it out of pure habit

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I have noticed that girls look at me more during this pandemic. I'm convinced it's because I'm more attractive with my face hidden.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Literally the best thing to come out of this pandemic for me personally has been not having to worry about people asking me if I'm ok or why I don't smile more

by Anonymous 3 years ago

A true smile is in the eyes not the mouth

by Anonymous 3 years ago

As a cashier, I think about this all the time.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

You can totally tell when someone smiles under the mask though.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Damn I didn't think about that

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Why would I ever force a smile.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I enjoy making faces at strangers as I walk past. lol! They have no idea! I practice in the mirror so I know it's not recognizable! Haha!

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Yup, i actually really like masks for this reason. i can hide my blank emotionless resting bitch face and just talk normal and be percieved as normal

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Yeah i love it its been great in that regard

by Anonymous 3 years ago

And it makes hiding your face easier. How convenient.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Right! It's like you're invisible.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Actually, I love talking to myself. Out loud. Helps me work through issues at work or whatever. Having a mask on is great because I can do it the entire time I'm grocery shopping and no one can tell.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

yeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSASS

by Anonymous 3 years ago

YES! Also the public is protected from my resting bitch face lol

by Anonymous 3 years ago

On the flip side though, I like to smile at people so wearing the mask can be depressing. I like people to know when I'm happy. Or that, at the very least, I'm a nice person.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Was walking to the pharmacy to pick up my anti depressants a couple of days ago. Fully crying, but with a mask on and a hood (it was also raining), no one questioned me.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I never force or fake a smile. Its empowering honestly.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I honestly love wearing a mask for that kind of reasons. It's so nice to not have a face in public.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Yes!

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Honestly, I could wear the mask from now on. I am home most of the time so I don't usually have to wear it for long lengths of time. I am not a social person and it helps prevent interactions with other people. I also can move my lips to sing to myself while in the store without people thinking I am weird. I can just nod my head and maybe say hi if I see someone I know.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I don't care either way, I'm confortable to walk around looking how I feel.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I realized that with a mask on, no one can see the big smile on my face. How else am I going to rub my happiness in depressed people's faces?

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I'm not depressed, but I relate to this so much.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I am not depressed and I love it for that same reason

by Anonymous 3 years ago

For anxious people, it makes us a lot more comfortable knowing half our face is hidden. I'm the type of person who always thinks about how other people see me, I've rarely felt that much at peace at school, in the street or in shops lol

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I now don't look like a total a-hole for avoiding people, instead I'm thanked! I love it

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I keep catching myself smiling at people because that's what I've been trained to do as a woman.

by Anonymous 3 years ago

Saaaame

by Anonymous 3 years ago

And then you realise your upper-face doesn't shift at all when you smile so you just look like a creep checking people out. Definitly not me

by Anonymous 3 years ago

I find myself not smiling as much with the mask nonsense
