If they don't already have a symbol marked on it. Use a sharpie and move on in life to important questions. Like do you pour milk over cereal or the other way around.

That's easy; the cereal always goes in the bowl first. Liquid fills in the space around the solids. Many boxes even have a picture of the milk going onto the cereal to demonstrate the proper way.
