My brother hit an Owl with a drive off the tee-box one day. Luckily he was able to be fixed up and released a few weeks later. A smaller bird would not have been so lucky... though not as easy to hit.

Heard many stories but have never seen it happen. I did see a bird hit by a pitched baseball.
