It also depends on the degree of reaction, being 'afraid' can mean worrying a lot (reasonable in current climate) or it can mean scrubbing skin off and causing panic attacks every time you realize you touched something without sanitizing it first (as opposed to just sanitizing your hands and it after realizing), etc.
