Why is polygamy bad?

Well it's illegal in the US. Polygamy/bigamy is outlawed here and I can't exactly remember why.

Bad and illegal are totally different things

It's outlawed because religion when you get to the heart of it. "Traditional views" don't do well with anything other than the husband and wife make babies dynamic in relationships.

I mean unless you go back just a little bit further than the ones currently in vogue here. Polygamy and Abrahamic religions go together like oppression and Abrahamic religions.

Except that the one used as the bases for the government was very much that. The places that allow polygamy are exceptions that prove the rule.

That's probably a fair assessment. It makes it a bit more confusing though. It's "bad" because it's illegal, but it's illegal because it's "immoral", and it's "immoral" because God says so, except not always and not all the time.

Polyamory. Isn't that just sleeping around? Everyone knows you do it so no one gets attached to you and you don't get attached to them?

Nah. Polyamory is having a multiple romantic relationships with different people at the same time (and they all know it). Sometimes the partners can be in a relationship between them as well.

So having multiple lover is bad unless it's open to women and have a slightly different name. Technically speaking polygamy is a polyamourous type of relationship
