When parents tell you how old their kids are, they are really trying to convey how many prestige levels they've achieved. amirite?

As a parent, I can tell you that I usually say it in order to gain sympathy or explain why I'm in such a bad mood.

In my experience they almost always ask their age(s) soon after revealing I have kids. But a lot of times I also reveal their ages because doing so gives them an idea of the challenges and experience I have as a parent. It is likely when they seek advice or ask that silly question, "Do you have kids?" and they are exhausted and just want a break from parenting.
