I guess "fly" was poor wording. But I've always heard mosquito bites referred to as "fly bites" - which is what I was referring to.
Vampires are bloodless. Ergo, there would be no reason to be bitten by mosquitos.

I believe that varies based on the source. Venom maybe?
Though I don't know why lack of blood would affect their ability to turn. Unless there's a type of vampirism that is a blood-borne disease.
