It's the smell of ozone. Rain drags it down to land and so the smell is more concentrated. Notice also how pleasant it smells outside even when it's not raining, when you've been inside a building that has painted shut windows, or no windows?

Rain smells nice because humans are wierd and our noses like some stuff. I like the smell of bleach!
