The definition of best depends on "whatever" in that sentence. The best in 100 meter running is simple. The fastest person. The best in explaining how to define best is an opinion and can not be measured in absolute numbers. Or is that just my opinion maybe? I'm stuck.

I work in sports and there are some records, especially in athletics that have stood for over 30 years and no one has come very close to them like the women's 400 and 800 meters. I would argue that a record that has lasted that long and hasn't had someone closely challenge it, then leaves that person as the best at the current point.
