The lesson isn't so literal as you see it. It wants you to think on a broader level. Sometimes it is a juste route to deliver what has been received. However, does this not make you the same? Retribution will make you feel good in the short run but that just defines the act. Understanding and maybe overcoming another's obstacles - that defines you as a person.
