Die or be killed, wat? Also it's not nearly as bad as what terrorists do. Being nervous about dying is a bit less bad than murdering thousands of people.
Thankfully, the majority of us are rational human beings who are aware that there isn't a causal relationship between being an Arab and being a homicidal religious extremist.
True, terrorism has no race, but the worst ones for the United States were by Arabs, so, although obviously not all Arabs are terrorists, it's a natural prejudice.
i completely agree, everyone is predjudice to a certain extent. but we must make the conscious effort to ignore those and not act upon then since they're based on things that aren't logical.
what's logical is fearing someone who displays the well known characteristics of those who would be considered terrorists (i.e. nervous, defensive, tense), not fearing someone because they're of a certain race.
i'm arab, and going through airport security its hell because of my race. while the time and effort put into taking me aside to a seperate room for a ”random search” because I am from a didn't country can be put into stopping those who actually are a threat
I agree that we need to make a conscious effort for such things, my main point is that it's natural, and, as such, something that won't go away.
On a side note, I didn't know airport security actually put more effort into searching Arabs. Although I'm sure the random searches are random, you can't just say "I was searched, I'm Arab, therefore it can't have been random".
usually every summer, and every time its the same ordeal. trust I'm not just being paranoid. but what can you do :/ xenophobia is, and always will be, present in society
:/ Strange. I would have thought they'd have done searching every 50 people or something like that, so it would be harder to just grab someone who's Arab. I wonder if it's the officials that say you have to search every Arab, and it's an actual rule, or if the grunts there just almost always decide to.
Not necessarily. The ones on the WTC stand out because a large number of people tragically died, but non-Arabs ie Timothy McVeigh (the Oklahoma City bomber) have also attacked American soil. It's a numbers game I suppose, as not many people died in the Oklahoma City bombing, but numbers do add up. I just don't think its fair to blame an entire people for the actions of a deluded minority or view them all with suspicion. As an Arab myself, I wasn't jumping for joy when the Twin Towers fell nor do I approve of what the people behind the attacks did. In my opinion religious extremists have no place in today's society.
"but the worst ones for the United States". I understand that there have been many terrorist attacks in the USA other than the Twin Towers and others commited by errors, but those were the biggest which is why it affects people the most, as you said. I agree that it's not fair as well.
Dude, don't worry. It could as easily be the Japanese guy in the back :P
See what I did there?? ;)
I'm arabic and I agree
whoa i never met a language before
Now you have
the fact that you just called yourself 'arabic' makes me doubt that you're an actual arab.
Lol I really am, but I have no way to prove it.
People like OP seriously need to all die or be killed. This planet is full of morons.

It's 2011, aren't we past this already?
No, the proper amount of time to get over something and be able to make jokes about it 23.5 years.
but this post isn't a joke, it's racism.
terrorism has no race
True, terrorism has no race, but the worst ones for the United States were by Arabs, so, although obviously not all Arabs are terrorists, it's a natural prejudice.
and natural prejudices are the problem. we need to stop generalizing and realize that people's characteristics are not defined by their race.
Prejudices aren't only racial. I know generalizing is bad, but people need to stop lieing to the themselves and saying they don't have any prejudices.

well i realized it wasn't random after like the 4th time it happened haha
Well how often do you go on flights? Or do you mean in a row?
