Believing in science takes just as much faith as believing in God. amirite?

you see some science. But do you see the big bang theory? Do you see RNA molecules? Did you see the dinosaurs all get killed by a comet or humans evolve from apes? Or life just spontaneously generate on a barren earth? I'm not saying i don't believe these things, but you still need quite a bit of faith to take what scientists say as the truth.

First off, a scientific theory is different than the common use of the word. For there to be a scientific theory, said theory has to be repeatedly tested and if one test goes against the theory, then the theory is out. Also, no microscope exists that can see atoms are molecules, and fossils can support evolution, but cannot prove it as you are implying.

(Scientists, as in university educated people who study how things work.) If over 90 percent of Doctors agreed X causes cancer, would you believe them? Maybe you don't take their word for it but all studies are documented and peer reviewed.

"Electrons microscopes allow for atomic imagery." Do you know what this means? Electron microscopes have a resolution of about 50 pm... a proton or neutron has a radius of about 0.002 pm... And Heisenberg's uncertainty principle (the act of measuring something changes it) pretty much guarantees that you cannot see atoms in any detail whatsoever; everything beyond that is theory. That's what I think is so cool about atomic theory; scientists figured all those details about the atom without ever seeing it, but it's also why scientists were wrong about it so many times.

That's not really a valid point i mean 3000 years ago most educated people thought the sun revolved around the earth. Furthermore, just a hundred years ago a large majority of astronomers thought the universe was infinite. Just because a bunch of people believe it doesnt make it true.

Also I dont think you understand how theories work. Laws are universal observations. Such as an object falls. Theories aim to explain laws. Why do apples/objects fall? Theories do not become laws. The theory of evolution aims to explain why it appears animals change (evolve) through time. "If one test goes against a theory..." the theory doesn't necessarily 'go out'. You have to explain or account for such an anomaly.

Actually, it's the complete opposite. Believing in a god requires "faith", or something without evidence. "Evidence" is ALL science is and it's completely dependant upon it.

My bio teacher always says, "I don't BELIEVE in scientific theories, because belief means there isn't sufficient evidence. With science, there is plenty of evidence. So I say I ACCEPT the theories."

Christians have opposed many scientific ideas and have been wrong. None of which they have been right. The most clear one is that they opposed the sun as the center of the milky way. That theory is clearly validated, yet the church continues to oppose other scientific advancements.

The problem with that is just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you HAVE to agree with the Big Bang Theory. I mean most of science is absolutely validated, but until a theory is used to explain something else in science, it's not really accepted by the scientific community. The Big Bang Theory is kind of in this boat right now, and there's still debate as to what actually happened at the start of the universe.

I have an example for intelligent design: Take a mockingbird, for example. I find it hard to believe that a bird evolved to mock hundreds of sounds ONLY through evolution. Now, come on with all the supposed "evidence" that mockingbirds have a evolutional advantage, and vote this down. I just heard one the other day, and this occurred to me.

If everything evolved from single-celled organisms, I seriously find it hard to believe all of the differences and complexity happened solely because of evolution. I believe that God made everything, and that it evolved from there. I don't think that everything in the world is the EXACT same as it was when it was created. What's more incomprehensible? The existence of a supreme being, whose prophecies have evidence of being fulfilled, or everything perfectly coming together to create the Universe, Earth, and organisms?

The THEORY of creation is nothing but a THEORY. The same people who use that argument against science don't seem to get that it can be used against religion. Faith is believing in something without basis. Science is based on real time observations or observations of things like fossil records. Religion is based on faith.

Why do people feel the need to hate on christians? Contrary to popular belief, most of us actually believe in both science and God. Who's to say God doesnt cause scientific things to occur? There is absoloutly know way to prove or disprove the existence of God.

Because science doesnt rely on a god to exist. otherwise it wouldnt be scientific. Scientific theory works best without an assumption of god. I actually like this moderate opinion more than some others i have read, but just thought i would point that out. Also: there is a reason that god cant be disproved. Its called logic. you cant literally prove a negative. To do so would require an inventory of the universe. And i doubt even this impossibility would be difinitive enough for christians. So if you make a claim it is up to you to prove it. Not us to disprove it. Yes? Thus i assert that a giant pipe smoking rabbit infact conrols the universe. i have to prove it because it would be impossible to disprove. Sorry this turned into a rant....

Yes,science doesn't need a God to exist, but that doesn't necessarily mean that God doesn't influence some of the things that happen, and as for the scientific theory working best without the assumption of god, i think that that is basically just an opinion, the way i feel is that It's kind of hard to believe the big bang rather than God influencing that sort of creation. As for proving it, we arn't trying to prove anything, we are just believing, I also don't think that we should HAVe to prove anything because that's exactly what faith is, is believing without having evidence, This is a never ending argument that will go on for century until we all die, however I heard a quote that ties into this. "If the athiests are right, they are right until we die, If the people who believe in God/Heaven are right, they are right for all eternity."

Shall I give some insight as to why I made this post? I was thinking about the scientific theories we live by today. If i'm not a scientist and I have no idea the complexities and uncertainties of every problem and solution that I'm given, how can I put full faith into one answer? I know these are smart people that can be trusted, but even though I don't understand the meaning, am I just supposed to put full faith into it? And with God, I believe he exists and created everything, but then am I not supposed to believe the obvious evidence of evolution? I don't know why he exists or his purpose, and I don't know what will happend to me when I die? So should I put my whole life on the line dedicated to this? But why not? Why not prepare for global warming even if it DOESNT happen, whats wrong with helping the planet. And why not prepare for heaven even if it DOESN'T exist, whats wrong with being a good person.
