We prefer squirrels over rats because they have hair on their tails. amirite?

Yeah...I think for me it's more that rats tend to infest places and squirrels tend to play in my yard and go back to the trees.

This is stupid. They belong to completely different animal families. Around a third of american households have had a rat infestations, while squirrel infestations do happen, they are a lot less common. Not to mention that rats have been blamed for a lot of disease throughout history, squirrels not so much.

I can vouch though, if your rat phobia is strong enough it will extend to some squirrels.

That's why I call them tree rats.

Squirrel isn't very good. Not much meat and a bit tough. They are similar to rabbits but ok if you are hungry and need food.

I was about to say that at least squirrel can't propagate the plague, but:
"14 juill. 2020 — Public health officials have announced that a squirrel in Colorado has tested positive for the bubonic plague."

Some areas in California have plague squirrels too. I worked weekends on a ranch in the mountains and we had to be careful. They have fleas that carry it that are the reason for transmission from body to body. There would be mass die offs now and then but they bred like crazy so it didn't take long to build up a population again before the plague wiped them again.
