I wouldn't call life in prison as "without any real consequences"

Not all prison time is equal.

A lifer can definitely still get a death sentence for murdering someone in prison in some states .

Somebody has never tried the loaf.

They can toss you in basically permanent solitary

Its called a "cancel out"two negatives make a positive, and they just let you out of jail.

@KilljoyX Its called a "cancel out"two negatives make a positive, and they just let you out of jail.

that's why i always commit multiple crimes at the same time. stealing a car? they can't arrest you if you're drunk driving it. because there's two crimes you're protected by double jeopardy

You don't think life in prison is a consequence?

@Milkzey You don't think life in prison is a consequence?

OP was talking about a prisoner who is ALREADY doing life in prison. If there is no death penalty, then what are they going to do, give him another life sentence?

Of course, you could say the same thing about somebody on death row. If the government is already going to kill you, then there isn't much to deter you from commiting any crime you think you can get away with in the meantime.

Said someone who has never been to prison

There's a chance they get murdered themselves, a kinda jail respect
