that's why i always commit multiple crimes at the same time. stealing a car? they can't arrest you if you're drunk driving it. because there's two crimes you're protected by double jeopardy

OP was talking about a prisoner who is ALREADY doing life in prison. If there is no death penalty, then what are they going to do, give him another life sentence? Of course, you could say the same thing about somebody on death row. If the government is already going to kill you, then there isn't much to deter you from commiting any crime you think you can get away with in the meantime.
