Depends on the language. In Portuguese is completely fine

@Mytokhondria So it is in German.

Rly? Just saying "Töchter, komm hier" works? Didn't know that

In my family it is. My parents often call me Tochter or Töchterchen instead of my name.

Cool! Nice to know that. 4 years learning the language and I had no idea

It's probably not something you'd learn from books. They usually say for example „meine Tochter, komm mal her" but they also say „mein Sohn, komm mal her" to my brother as the male equivalent. It might differ throughout regions though, I'm from southern Germany.

Is it less syllables in that language? I think that's probably why.

Filha is shorter than daughter, but I don't think 3 letters is the reason for that

Wouldn't that be one less syllable? (I have no idea how that would be pronounced, sorry)

It is! But idk, just feels weird that only 3 letters would make people not use the word at all

But hey, I'm no linguistic

Two syllables vs. one

Don't call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me

Just had this conversation with my daughter yesterday.

Legendnoel77s avatar Legendnoel77 Yeah You Are +5Reply

I call my daughter 'Daughter' all the time. It's not all unusual for me to walk into a room and say "Hello daughter. How was your day?" Or "Hello daughter of mine."

To avoid this kind of situation, my parents just call me "disappointment"

Should we be saying girl-son? Lady-child?

As a father with a daughter, no it's not

@Thatoneduderyan As a father with a daughter, no it's not

I think they mean in the sense "come have a seat, daughter."

@Thatoneduderyan As a father with a daughter, no it's not

As a father of 3 girls I'll say it's not unusual at all and more so they could tell whom I was referring to simply by how I said it~

As the daughter, i hate being called that. Does not sound like an endearing word.

Son is so easy to say daughter is a mouthful
