True, but having the infrastructure of a developed nation makes poverty a bit more comfortable (social security/healthcare etc.)

Wealth for the most part is derived from economic efficiency. Poor infrastructure means that doing anything is not only more expensive, it also takes longer to do everything.

Unfortunately, it's a safe bet that there are considerably more of the former over the latter.

Not really true. We were dirt poor growing up in Los Angeles but the safety nets ie: welfare, food stamps, section 8, kept us far from the poverty of a 3rd world country.
