That's called confirmation bias and it's also the reason why sociopaths and attractive people have undeserved success.

Muscle tension around the eyes is one of the things I look at. Great way to guesstimate what someone is feeling.
And people's faces change shape over time in response to their most commonly used facial expressions. So it's possible to guess what expressions they make the most based on wrinkle formation.
