+114 Maybe your dog keeps bringing the ball back because he thinks you just like throwing it. amirite?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Except my dog doesn't bring the ball back

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Mine does not won't let them go. They get upset I'm not throwing them but I can't throw them from your mouth?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Have you tried turning the dog off and back on

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i mean i think i turned it off... but how do i turn it back on?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Put it on the charger

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Is the charging port the hole under its tail?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Yes

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Pull your pants back up

by Anonymous 2 years ago

They want to play-fight with you. You try to take the ball from them and they try to fight you off. Dogs do this with each other often so yours might've picked this up somewhere. I think we're not supposed to encourage this play pattern though.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Why? I play wrestle with my friends dog all the time. He loves it and he's the sweetest dog. I can shove my whole forearm in his mouth and he won't bite down at all, he knows I'm scared so he goes easy lol. I still wrestle him.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You only discourage it if the dog has issues and is liable to take it too far. If you have a decently raised dog it won't be a problem.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Yeah, I wrestle with our aussies all the time and they know not to hurt you. They'll try to kill you with licks, though.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i feel like my girls dog does this. i dont think she wants to fetch, i think she just likes to play tug of war... and she'd be undefeated if i didnt cheat to get it

by Anonymous 2 years ago

No TAKE only THROW!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog is like that. He wants to play keep away with the ball but he's incredibly smart and agile so it's impossible to win against him. If you ignore him, he drops the ball to bark at you but snatches it up and runs off before you can try to grab it.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog does this. I've outsmarted him by just having two balls! When he drops the first, I throw the second and pick up the first.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Just throw the entire dog.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog doesn't want to drop it either. So I have two toys one that can roll so we can kick that one while he has the other in his mouth.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog used to do this too. The trick is to grab his collar and hold his head still. Then put your hand on the ball but don't pull. Hold them there motionless with you holding the ball for like 2 minutes. Eventually he gets bored and let go. Then you have to throw it as quick as possible so that he learns he will get it back if he gives it to you.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

No take. Only throw.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Two balls, can't catch it with one already in their mouth. Hopefully they just drop it before they run

by Anonymous 2 years ago

This. My dog will chase, but not retrieve. I end up playing fetch with myself.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Your dog has taught you to play fetch.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Neither did mine. Always did the exact opposite of what I wanted.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You need a more patronizing dog.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Same, he just looks at me wondering when I'll go get what I threw

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My cat brings it back maybe a third of the time. Another third of the time, she'll pick it up, drop it on the way back, then look at me expectantly. That last third is her waiting for me to throw the ball that I already threr for her.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Maybe he thinks you don't like to throw it

by Anonymous 2 years ago

And he's right - ball thowing isn't really a big passion of mine

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I have a black lab. This dog is pathological in her love for thrown tennis balls. She salivates to the point that the ball is saturated and dripping. Trust me, I do not "just like throwing" slobbery, squishy tennis balls.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You might want to invest in one of those plastic "Chuck-It" ball thrower things. They let you launch the ball twice as far without throwing out your shoulder, and you can pick up the balls without touching them. Win win!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Thanks is for the recommendation. We rescued her at 10 years old ...but she still thinks she's a puppy. We have to regulate her fetch-playing or she can't walk the next day. We have a 10 throws maximum per session.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog thinks the thrower is the world's best stick and obsesses over it more than the ball.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I have a labordoodle whose exactly the same. I think it might be a labrador thing.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Then why do you keep throwing it

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Wear a glove lol

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Except that inpatient look in their eyes as they scoot it towards you...

by Anonymous 2 years ago

He just wants you to let yourself have a good time

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My pup is super patient. It has been over 10 minutes, she just sits there waiting. I say "I can't reach it" and no matter where the ball is it gets closer.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Bruh, inpatient?! 🤦

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Yeah, like the dog is hospitalized it wants the ball so bad.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You've never encouraged your dog to fetch? Get the ball! Get the ball boy! Who's a good boy?! Yeah like that but imagine you can't talk and you know this human likes it when you're calm.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My last dog refused to fetch anything. If I took a treat and threw it she would just sit there looking at it then just ignore it until I either went and got it or she was walking by it for some other reason. Didn't matter what it was. If I tossed it to her, she would let it bounce off her face then pick it up and eat it. She would never catch it. She was super intelligent and understood things super fast but she was also extremely stubborn.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Would she prefer puzzle boxes instead? The ones for dogs with treat inside it. (Don't accidentally the the ones made for cats tho)

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I accidentally the cat. What should I do.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Reach carefully into the dogs mouth and try to remove the cat.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I wouldn't put that past him 😂 he's a pretty nice guy that dog of mine.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Lucky

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Your dog thinks fetch is a game that you made up with them. And they love you for it.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Maybe he's right.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Apparently wolves entertained themselves by tossing sticks and getting them and cave people started throwing them so they could have more fun running farther because we like to throw things and so that's part of how we ended up domesticating them. We invented fetch tens of thousands of years ago together

by Anonymous 2 years ago

What? Citation plz. I really want to see wolf throwing sticks. Lol.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog throws her toys and catches them sometimes; totally believable

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Honestly even without a citation I would choose to believe this because it's too cute not to

by Anonymous 2 years ago

In this sense, dogs are always loyal and trustworthy

by Anonymous 2 years ago

It does make me smile

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog hides the ball..

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Mine loses it under everything and then gets huffy if you don't help her get it 😐

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I throw it.. she gets it.. and slowly walks away with it to put it somewhere far away from me! She's a border collie with a ton of endless energy.. but she be damned if she's gonna chase that ball 🤷🏼‍♀️

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog plays keep away and has made up her own game. She even squeaks her ball as some form of mockery if I can't catch her. She also looks really offended if I throw it.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Dogs have a natural instinct to bring you things. If you show a dog early on that the behaviour gets a reward then it feeds that instinct. Most of the time a dog only wants to please it's owner so sometimes it is usually confusion that leads to this irregular behaviour.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

C'mon boy, wanna go fetch?! Huh, yeah let's go fetch! Ugh, Woof, ok ok I'm coming... ...Good boy give it back Growl, no more, can't we just go home? Pant... No, I'm not letting go this time-Dammit! That's it, tonight I'm gonna tear up his all his shoes. Get myself some alone time in the dog house... Haven't had a chance to lick my balls all week!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Dogs are too happy and loving for their own good that we may never know

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog must hate me. If i give him a toy he walks away or pushes it away from his bed and gives me a dirty look.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

10% of the time I think my dog does it for me. He loves fetch and I love playing with him but sometimes I'll ask "Wanna play?" and his ears will move but when I throw it he slow walks to it, drops it at my feet and walks away

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You're not playing fetch with him, he's playing throw with you.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Then why won't he give me the ball back

by Anonymous 2 years ago

To please their family, dogs might do most things we see them do because they believe we like what we do to play with them.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

yep, probably mutual.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Pup thinks he is keeping you fit.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Technically true ha

by Anonymous 2 years ago

And he would be correct.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I'll never think of fetch the same again.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog would play for hours if he could, but when tired, he'd look at me for a couple seconds, then, ball still in his mouth, go sit under a tree near his water bowl, and spit the ball out on the ground, and rest.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

No, it's definitely not about me.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

And maybe she likes to go on walks with me because it puts me in a better mood!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You DONT like throwing the ball with your little furry companion?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I think they are secretly laughing at my girly throw!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

That depends, is the dog staring at you or the ball?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Do you guys not like throwing it?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Writing prompt!

by Anonymous 2 years ago

But the dog is the one that wants me to keep throwing it, I'd rather sit on the couch and watch something lmao

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Wow din think of that

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Unless you have a Chow Chow

by Anonymous 2 years ago

But then why does he love showing off his jumps while catching the ball. Seriously, that boy loves spinning 360° while jumping for a ball and lands on his feet perfectly.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

probably. depends on the doggo.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

The way she looks at that ball... I'm not so sure.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

My dog runs away with the ball.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Mine doesn't really like to play fetch a lot, he does like tug of war though.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Not my dog. It was definitely for her own enjoyment.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Well there is no money and I'm of no use anymore so thank God for that

by Anonymous 2 years ago

A group of rejects...you deserve each other have fun...get tested

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Rule 1, not original in any way

by Anonymous 2 years ago

tried throwing the ball and he never actually brought it back..maybe cuz hes six feet under

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I have a Boarder Collie. He'll chase a ball you throw but then it's finder's keeper's asshole.

by Anonymous 2 years ago
