Depression is a medical condition. Telling someone with depression to "try harder to be happy" is not helpful. Would you tell someone with a chronic illness to "try harder to get healthy"?

I think it's more of that we're all prone to taking the path of least resistance. And often times the path of least resistance is the one where we choose to be sad about everything around us instead of working on being happy. Sounds dumb but that's my perspective I guess
