It only makes a difference if you are doing nice things just to get something out of it for yourself.

Agreed. People will do nice things not because they want to but because they need it for community service hours. It's a nice thing to spend time with elders but if your doing it for service hours and not because you want to doesn't mean you a nice person but you can still be a nice person.
