The great filter argument.....maybe we are destined to eventually wipe out the human race....the great filter basically tries to explain why we haven't found intelligent extraterrestrial life yet.

An intelligent species doesn't allow for suffering from greed, or death because of idealism. The other issue is, yes there may be an event that wipes most of us out someday; we are probably (aside from roaches) the most adaptive species on the planet and the species will continue.
