I see your logic. My issue is that sword users who barely land attacks leave permanent scars forever but he's landing deadly blows and it just knocks them out. He might as well just use a club or bat or something

Hitting someone in the chest with a dull extremely heavy piece of metal which, while not coming down to a sharp edge, is still edged, will still kill people.
