Have the metals they're made out of become worth more than the face value of the coin yet?

Nickels vs half dimes in history. half dimes were smaller. Then went out of favor before 1900. Nickels we're named after the metal originally made.

What's even more confusing for people who visit the United States is that nowhere on our ten cent piece does it say the number 10. Other countries at least label the value on their coins, somewhere. In the US, you get a handful of ridiculously worthless change, and you're just supposed to guess that the smallest ones don't have the smallest value.
