Considering inflation and cost of living, it now makes sense to cry over spilled milk. amirite?

A gallon of milk is on average $4.25, so say you spill a glass which is maybe 1/2-1 cup why would you cry over something that's less than a dollar

With the way things are going, every dollar can make the difference for people living paycheck to paycheck I guess.

I live paycheck to paycheck, I'm not crying over accidentally wasting a dollar, you would have to be homeless or close to it to care that much

That's not what that idiom is trying to convey. The idiom "Don't cry over spilled milk" is advising people not to become upset over minor mistakes that can't be fixed. Rather clean up the mess and move on with your life.
