this sounds like the marxist labour theory of value - which is not how it works under capitalism. billionaires earn 10000x the wageslaver yet work the same hours.

It's the representation of the PRICE of your work, hard or otherwise. Price is distinct from value and worth. It's the exact point between "as much as you could manage to be paid" and "as little as they could possibly pay you."

How hard the work is literally has nothing to do with it.

It's the representation of how much banked labor you control. Nothing more. It is not always deserved and not always your labor.

It's actually inversely proportional to hard work in most cases. The more you have, the less you actually work hard.
