+127 The US and Canada should merge, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

35 Million Canadians work and live in the US?????? I mean Canada has a population of 38 Million. I think there's something wrong.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No thanks - 'Merica

by Anonymous 1 year ago

can i ask how you did that fancy highligt?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The US is already too big to govern well. Making it bigger isn't a solution.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I came here to say this exact thing. I've been saying this for over a decade, America needs to split into like 7 countries.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's a wonder that such a big country even has a "function" democracy and still is a big player in the world

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah no thanks. I live in Vermont and see how Canada is. Respect for my fellow moose + maple friends but I'm good.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

'Issues resulting from borders' I just cannot but find that a very interesting thing to say.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

the Canadian border gives the US much less issues than the Mexican border

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Only because of it's location.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

More as in a lack of hostility that you may see regarding other countries borders, i.e. US and Mexico, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Bangladesh and India etc.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No, I don't think I'd like that. But thank you anyway.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't think that Canadians would tolerate Trump & Trumpism, which seems to prevail among a segment of the US population.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They are putting up with Trudeau. I think you need to either research more, or get off of the internet.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No Canada's actually a pretty great country. American politicians would ruin that for them.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why do you hate Canadians?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Dont hate Canadians, just dont want to merge countries, hard pass...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, exactly. Canadians escaped being American by the skin of their teeth, kinda mean to take that away trom them now.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why do you hate Americans?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't, I just think America is fairly tragic.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ah. Yeah, there is that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Get rid of Prime Minister Castreau first.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

no thanks 👍. we don't want constant mass shootings and expensive healthcare over here

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'll pass. I used to think it would be a good idea. The last decade the political dumpster fire the US government has been feeding is going to keep me separate.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Big Canada sounds preferential, yeah.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why? So many issues between the two. For example: Canada charges higher taxes for 'free healthcare'. The 'free healthcare' is generations lower than what is available in the USA! So many Canadians go to the USA for healthcare, while only a few USA citizens (with dual citizenship) go to Canada for healthcare. That is just one example! Canada also does not believe int he 2nd amendment. SCOTUS confirmed the 2nd amendment in the USA is alive and well.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The second ammendment has almost single handedly ruined the USA, and Canadian healthcare is not 'generations lower than what is available in the USA'. Taxes vs health insurance, why would you rather be paying multitudes extra to a private company?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

In the US, If I need a procedure or an operation, i can get it today. No problem since I am responsible for myself. Whether I pay cash, use insurance, or a combination, not an issue. Not the same as Canada. Hence, we have tens of thousands of Canadians every year visiting the US for medical treatment. Please explain how the 2nd Amendment has almost single handedly ruined the USA. I am very interested in your reasoning.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The USA has a greater range of experimental procedures available for purchase. Because why wouldn't it; with a profit-motive system, pharmaceutical companies will gladly take your money. The wait times for countries with universal healthcare is largely propaganda designed to finagle idiots into supporting a system that is first and foremost designed to extort money out of citizens. I'm not as familiar with Canada, but I've had treatment in the UK and have never been faced with unreasonable waiting periods; I could have my kidney out today if that's what I needed, and not be faced with inordinate medical bills for the privilege of being sick, not being able to work, and presumably going through prolonged treatment (dialysis). But you won't be told. Mention death panels, next. >Please explain how the 2nd Amendment has almost single handedly ruined the USA. I am very interested in your reasoning. An amendment wildly misinterpreted (well-regulated militias) to allow people to ignore the very real tragedies associated with widespread gun ownership in the name of 'freedom'. It'd be hilarious if it weren't so tragic, the brain rot that exists in American culture to allow these things to happen basically unchecked.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wow. You are just vomiting your media's talking points. I hope you wake up some day.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

As much as i love canada, yeah...USA is too big it needs to shrink. Thats the only chance we have at effective free healthcare really.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hell no.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What are the benefits, what problem does this solve?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm for it! We can call it something exotic like, "North America Super Friends". Sorry Mexico and Quebec, cool kids only.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Tbh a think an economic union achieves this in a better way

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What purpose would this achieve? The US is already broken down into 50 states, and the states have quite a bit of autonomy (as illustrated during the pandemic). Would Canada be the 51st state? or the 51st through 56th state, or whatever? Other than the simple fact that it would never, ever happen, I can't see why you would even want it to happen.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think it would be great if everyone involved is ok with it. But that being said Canadians don't want to join the union and that goes against the whole principle of self determination. Unless they change their Minds and want to join, I'm not ok with them being forced to join.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

uhh no? Not sure it's needed plus Canada is apart of the commonwealth us annexing Canada would create issues in the long run.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wow lots of people here really the US is better...weird. Maybe they love regular mass shootings, unregulated capitalism and paying extortionate amounts for healthcare and education. All Americans I've met have been lovely, kind people. Truly. But Americas issues are almost comically grotesque

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You could make this same general argument about many neighboring countries, and it would almost always (literally always?) be a bad idea. There's currently a war on over one of those situations, and a near war over another.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

While we're at it, just combine North and South Korea and all non-Brazilian South American Countries too

by Anonymous 1 year ago

nay I'll pass sorry
