I agree but it's definitely a loooooong ways off. At this moment I would be avidly against a self driving 18 wheeler considering we can't fully get self driving sedans right. Last thing we need is a multi-ton vehicle malfunctioning.
As long as they start going faster than 60 or 65 on the freeway I'm happy, it's so annoying having to pass one.. then another one.. then another one..

A lot of the heavier trucks have to go slower cause it's to dangerous going at higher speeds. Self-driving trucks would stay strictly on their legal speed unless they have to slow down.
Fun fact: the biggest hold up on self driving cars/trucks is our decaying infrastructure. I heard something like 70% of our roads are unreadable by the self-driving AIs

And to get from the train yard to the destination?
You'd only need a very short journey (likely). Magnitudes easier, safer, and cheaper than trying to get self driving lorries.
