+138 7 out of 10 being considered average is incorrect, amirite?

Average in this case is (simplified) "what the majority of people get". Average doesn't mean the middle value, it means a performance which isn't notably better or worse than what most people do.

Average =/= Median

Technically Mean ≠ Median

Fair, I was just trying to use OPs language

I hate that with video game/movie reviews that just give out numbers. The amount of people I've seen who have said they won't okay anything lower then an 8 is ridiculous. Like would a game rated with a 7 be worse the one with a 8? Maybe, but 7 isn't a bad score. I think a 7 is considered good on the IGN rating so it's so dumb

I've seen 4's on video game reviews be described as average. Which if a game did get a 4/10, i think it failed. Or is that, because on average every game fails?

This is true if you are talking about median average. 5 is the the median average of 0 and 10. If you are referring to a test, I doubt many people would consider 50% as average. It is quite bad, which is why it is a failing grade. In theory, the mean average score is normally 70%, hence 7 of 10 being average. If you are rating a movie, I could see giving an average movie a 7. I would consider 5 or 6 being on the bad side.

Statistically speaking, the range from the 25th percentile to the 75th percentile is considered the "majority" or "expected" behavior (i.e., 2.5/10 up to 7.5/10). I think what you're describing is the majority, not an average. The average is not the median and the median is not the average.

Yeah I think of 5 being the "middleground" rating for things....it's not super great but it's not terrible, and obviously anything above that is good.

A 50% would be considered failing. A D is 60% which is still barely passing, and i would consider 60% barely enjoyable. I like this system, but a lot of people consider 50% a average. If something got a 50% it failed (bad).

This is not unpopular. Just correct

Incorrect

Even a movie like The Godfather only has a 9.2/10 on the site IMDb. Because it's a pretty harsh rating site and there's No such thing as a perfect 10. "Average" means different things across different types of rating scales etc.

In game reviews this is average, 90+% of reviews are usually between 6(not good) to 10. If u take the average all reviews made (in a year for example) by major game reviewers im pretty sure the average would be around 7+.

Since when does anyone consider 7/10 average???

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There was a research that people rated each other on average like a 7. Despite beiing a 3 or 4 I think qoves covered it somewhere on youtube. Also regarding ugly when is someone ugly? When average (so a 7)? Or when someone is truely deformed? Or when someone don't get stared when outside and get no matches on dating sites?

Someone didn't pay attention in math class

Questioning a system in place doesn't mean someone isn't paying attention.

Average means not "ugly." So yes 7/10 is not ugly. 6s can be sexy btw.
