+130 Not adding sugar to your tea or coffee doesn't make you more "mature", amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

True maturity is understanding you can drink it however you like it. The immature ones are the gatekeepers deciding what is and isn't coffee.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

True maturity is being able to make fun of people with "childish" preferances of AND being on the recieving end of it as well, while knowing there's nothing wrong with that taste but also realize it's pretty funny. Basicslly, if you feel the need ti defend yourself for minir tastes, yiu're kinda immature.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nice words!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

>People really think not adding sugar to their hot drinks makes them more mature or adult or something. They do? I have never encountered any of these people, and it seems like quite a silly and immature thing to think, actually.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I spent a painful amount of time around artists at 18-22. I feel like it's less prevalent now (kind of like the 21 jump street joke where now there aren't popular kids?). But the 2010s reaction to pumpkin spice lattes and white mochas is burned into my brain.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They do. It is silly and factually wrong. My daughter has told me stories. but it's not likely an unpopular opinion as a much as I think the OP thinks it is.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

My dad goes off on me every time he sees me put sugar in my coffee... It's been, like, 30 years of this. It's not changing.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Who says that? I just dont need more sugar.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There are a lot of people that add so much milk and sugar to coffee it actually doesn't resemble coffee anymore.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

How much sugar are we talking about? If your "coffee" is mostly cream and sugar or some kind of caramel ribbon crunch milkshake, you don't like coffee, just sugar.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I fully agree with you on this one

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is a nonsense opinion. Do you think chocolate milk, soda and coffee with equal amounts of sugar are all the same drink?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Okay cool. Still like it tho.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I am someone who doesn't use sugar in coffee and tea normally and have to agree with you. People including myself sometimes, act like we're better than others because we don't need the sugar, but that's pretty stupid. You should just drink it how you like

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It depends on the tea

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yep, I see that you are a man or woman of culture. I really like Talo Zen green tea without sugar, but plain green tea definitely gets some honey or sugar.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

it doesnt it just makes me less prone to diabetes

by Anonymous 1 year ago

same here, if I add sugar then I will no doubt be shaking with hunger in the next hour. But if I just drink black coffee I'll be fine until the afternoon.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No it does not. But it does make you healthier.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Adding a small amount of sugar isn't unhealthy.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But it is healthier not to consume a "small amount of sugar" during the 365 days of the year. Also, people who don't consume sugar in coffee generally won't use sugar in other types of food because they are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It is if you do it with everything.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

>People really think not adding sugar to their hot drinks makes them more mature or adult or something. They do? well, that's a logical fallacy.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I asked my old man why he likes his coffee black, he told me when was young and broke sugar and cream where a luxury, and he just got used to it

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm certainly not more mature but I dropped 5 pounds by losing the hazelnut and whole milk.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ikr bro like bland tea or coffee doesn't make you a full grown up its just a beverage

by Anonymous 1 year ago

More specifically people that drink coffee black lmao they have to let everyone know

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Not caring about what makes you seem more or less mature is what makes you more mature. If someone told me drinking sugar in my coffee is childish I would just ignore them.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Dingding!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nobody cares how anyone else drinks their coffee. I don't want your candy water, but I don't expect everyone else to drink it black.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

>Nobody cares how anyone else drinks their coffee. Vs >I don't want your candy water Also what? >but I don't expect everyone else to drink it black No duh? No one said people who are insulting magically thinks that which they are insulting disappears from the realm. Doesn't make it not an insult.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Who cares if it's an insult. Move on

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP has a point. I personally started putting less and less sugar to my espresso in my early 30s until I finally started having my coffee with no sugar. Same for tea. It's not that you are a more mature or sophisticated person, of course not, but in terms of infusion "culture" it is generally accepted that sugar is for "beginners". Mate in my area is very popular and if someone tries to put sugar in it, he/she would be heavily bullied. Sugar on the mate is for kids in my country. So I'll have to admit that OP's opinion is unpopular among snobs like myself :-)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

>So I'll have to admit that OP's opinion is unpopular among snobs like myself :-) You're annoying.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Do people actually say this? A lot of peoples' tolerance for sugar just goes down as they get older.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hmm, I think that I always somewhat associated this with maturity because my parents and grandparents generations hardly ever put sugar or honey in their warm beverages, so do some of my friends. I don't necessarily think of it negatively or positively and it's just a think that makes me think "oh that person is drinking dad coffee" or "I have become a father" (very specific answer cuz my dad used to brew his black coffee on the stove in one of those ancient Tin style boiling cups).

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Life is more simple without sugar

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Uhh…pretty sure it's widely accepted that people can drink what they want, how they want, without being childish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Personally I take my coffee with a splash of 2% milk and that's it. Same with some teas (most teas I drink plain - i.e. without milk, creamer, or sugar). I do not need my coffee or tea to be sweeter than the doughnut that I may occasionally enjoy it with.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Honey is better anyway

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What? I've never had sugar in my tea cause my mums type 1 diabetic, when i was like 10 i had Sweetener tablets but went off them for no particular reason as a teenager.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I never heard someone claiming they are "mature" or act like they are, because they drink coffee without sugar. Personally I prefer plain espresso, but sometimes I'll put hazelnut syrup in it. Anything else like milk, whipped cream or sprinkles and cr\*p like that is not coffee. Yes, it's a hot beverage, but I feel like the caffeine part dissapears.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

IMO the right amount of sugar balances out the bitterness of coffee nicely, giving it a nice neutral flavor. I hate my coffee being overly sweet but I still add a bit of sugar for this reason.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I will say maybe my palette just expanded because I used to drink my coffee with sugar and flavored creamer. Then switched to sugar and plain creamer and then lessened how many sugar and now I drink flavored (unsweetened) coffee with just 1/2 and 1/2. It's more of an evolution than anything else for me. I don't think I'd claim maturity for it 😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yep. I have nearly zero responsibilities and I have my tea black no sugar with the bag left in.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It makes you more healthy tho

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Food has no age restrictions (other than human breast milk limited to only babies and alcohol for those above a certain age depending on country)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Who the hell thinks like that…

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Black coffee drinker here. Tbh I've only gotten grief from people that put sugar in their coffee. I didn't always drink it black so I totally get using sugar and cream. They're always like "I don't know how you can drink it like that" I'm like it's not for you to know mf. Also, I didn't change to be more "mature" it's just healthier black. You can throw this in with talking about politics, voting, buying suits etc. There's a plethora of things humanity does to seem more "mature".

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I see one more person saying that the South does yea "wrong", I'm going to put a brick in their mouth

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think it's a natural correlation vs causation thing. People that put sugar in coffee/tea typically are just younger who often happen to be immature as well. But I agree this shouldn't really be a stance people have.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I started drinking black coffee in college because I wasn't mature and frequently did not have sugar or creamer that hadn't spoiled on hand.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I used to like my coffee black, then I had an organ transplant and my tastes changed. I like my coffee with cream and sugar now. I also like cinnamon and vanilla a lot more than I used to too. Weird world.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe these people are just trying to avoid sugar and don't think they're better than anyone?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That isn't the type of person OP is complaining about.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

adding honey does.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I agree with this, how you prepare your coffee/tea really depends on what you prefer. You can be a young child yet enjoy an expresso while a full grown adult enjoys a nice a sweet but light coffee. Theres really no maturity level yet people make certain things like adding sugar seem childish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

show me a young child who enjoys an espresso

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Not sure where "maturity" came in to how a person drinks their coffee. I drink it black so I don't have the caloric intake of 7 double doubles a day as compared to just a black coffee.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

...why are you drinking 7 coffees per day!?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

How I drink my coffee is dependent on my mood ... sometimes I drink black, sometimes black with milk/ sugar... sometimes with condensed milk

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't add sugar or milk to my tea or coffee solely because I don't wanna consume sweets into my body every morning

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is one of those where people think that the people who don't put sugar in their coffee think they're more mature

by Anonymous 1 year ago

"Oh, I get it. You want your coffee to be as bitter as you are."

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sugar is for the weak.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You obviously aren't 'Sweet enough '.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sugar does spike your insulin to unhealthy levels. No Wonder carbonated drinks are restricted to children who can't make a healthy choice for themselves.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just drink whatever I want, let people judge. If you have a superiority complex over a beverage you are a joke to me. Same goes for people gatekeeping cars, phones, games, etc. Keep judging I won't care

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It does in the same way not drinking soda or not reading comic books makes you "mature". Some things are childish, candy is one of them, and by extension sugar. You can choose to be immature; I personally find life a lot more fun that way, but a world of Willy Wonkas and Peter Pans is not sustainable. Someone has to be the grownup.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Actually it is educate yourself then speak

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You might hold an opinion that adding sugar makes you immature..it might only be you that holds that opinion

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I just don't like sweet coffee or tea. 🤷‍♀️

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Adding sugar to your coffee isn't immature. But there is a masculine vibe to drinking straight black coffee. I really feel like I enjoy black coffee much more than any cream or sugar in coffee. Guess cuz I'm a man

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ugh. You're basically drinking flavoured water at that point. So feminine. You should man up and just eat the beans directly.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed, but you also cannot claim to like either one if you ruin the taste by throwing stuff like milk or suger in there.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But you also can't claim to like coffee if you add water. If you drink "black coffee," you're basically just drinking flavoured water. Eat the roasted beans directly.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

True. But you thinking it is unpopular opinion makes you sound childish.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

More mature, no. More healthy, yes.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I disagree with the OP. It does make your more mature as you are self aware of your health and you understand that adding sugar is unnecessary.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Being mature means eating and drinking stuff you don't like the taste of? That's called being pretentious.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's a matter of opinion. Taking responsibility for your own health is considered to be part of maturity, taste is irrelevant.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If you're worried about your health to the extent that you consider a teaspoon of sugar harmful then you shouldn't be drinking coffee.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

A teaspoon of sugar is 16 calories. What are you on about

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Mature? No. Healthy? Yes.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Ok thanks.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wtf are you talking about?

by Anonymous 1 year ago
