There was sexual tension between mother and child in the "Dune" movie. amirite?
by Anonymous2 years ago
There is no incestuous relationship in the book. In every Dune thing ever made, they hamfist part of the story by ignoring the fact that in the book, Paul is about 15 not mid-20s.

She is realizing his power and is a little scared of it. It's not sexual it's about power.

It's about drive it's about power we stay hungry we devour

You probably just read too much into the extremely close relationship they have. They explain kind of why in the movie but go much more into it in the first book. Without going too spoilery that's the reason they are so close and the movie did a good job of it

They're close because of her love for Leto causing her to ignore her orders to produce a girl for the sisterhood. Paul represents her love for her husband being so great that she'd betray her order to have him. There's nothing to even suggest that they'd have anything more than that.

As someone who has seen the movie and is reading Dune, you're reading into a little bit too much. They care for each other deeply, definitely, and considering Paul is uh… very special, not going to spoil things, she's usually shocked by him more than anything. He's also her last tie to Leto, whom she truly loved. It also has to do with Bene Gesserit stuff. Considering Paul is also her only child until later, it's not surprising that they are close.

It is not a sexual tension.
In the prophecy we see mumbled earlier in the movie, it is said that he who comes, will know their ways.
Paul shows it by knowing how to strap up his boots.
Then later in the movie we see his mom have the same revelation. He adjusted to the world in the blink of an eye, and knows his way around the stillsuit with ease.
She doesn't. It was her first time putting one on, and she's baffled by the process.
There is nothing incestuous in the books.
Timothee Chalamet is 26, Rebecca Ferguson is 38. They are not close in age.
Society has nothing to do with how you wrongfully interpreted a scene.

You think a 2 year age gap isn't close in age?

38* sorry

Ah gotcha

Last time I checked mothers aren't 12 years older than their kids. Your mom have you when she was 12?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Well, not to mention most mothers would be slightly self conscious standing nude in front of their grown children to put on a stillsuit......Personally I saw what you did and also the awkwardness in the moment as she disrobed. I also think maybe some are misinterpreting her looks at him forgetting she believes he is Kwisatz Haderach after the box scene.

Not as much as that brother and sister in Gladiator lol.

I had the same problem with my sister. People couldn't stomach how we could be so close and so in tune with each other and not be fooling around. There are a lot of scenes where the two are simply looking at each other, and when man and woman are just staring at each other like that, we often project a sexual tension. The mother has telepathic powers. They communicated in this way. One can also imagine that the combination of parent, sibling relationship and a literal telepathic connection to each other means that their closeness is something we really can't understand. The closest thing you can understand to it involves sex, so that is what you assume it to be.
