people shouldn't order too much food at restaurants if they aren't able to finish them. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Or just take it home if you can't finish it at the table
by Anonymous1 year ago
It can depend on the restaurant as well. Sometimes a server will inform that the portions are large; but other than steak and ribs I've never seen the amount of food something will be on the menu.
by Anonymous1 year ago
in that restaurant specifically the portions are average size like what you'd eat for dinner
by Anonymous1 year ago
In most restaraunts I go to the portions are double what I'd eat for dinner by default, and the specific restaurant in question gave easily 4 servings in one serving of fries, probably 2 McDonalds large worth.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Exactly, "average" does not mean reasonable or healthy. The vast majority of restaurants I've been too (and I go out A LOT) have way too big portion sizes. Combine that with the "Finish your plate" mentality, and it's easy to see why there's such a huge obesity problem in my country (US).
by Anonymous1 year ago
Most "average" portions in the US are far from "average".
by Anonymous1 year ago
They won't let me order a kids meal and the portions in a normal meal are big. Luckily I can take the leftovers home and eat em tomorrow.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'm in the US and over the weekend left a half eaten burger on the plate. Agree with others our portions are ridiculous; it also just happens I was driving out of town and no place to store said burger. Sometimes things aren't always as they seem…like ordering too much and being wasteful.
by Anonymous1 year ago
whenever I leave town, even a day trip, I bring a cooler with me and have empty tupperwares so I can keep my leftovers 🤣
by Anonymous1 year ago
I love having leftovers to take home.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't think people intend to be wasteful. Its usually either not knowing the portion sizes or a case of their eyes being bigger than their stomach.
by Anonymous1 year ago
that's not the case here western food is expensive to make in my country so the food is properly portioned so there is no wastage
by Anonymous1 year ago
Here in the US portions are pretty out of control. People often have to take the food left over home with them.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't 'have to' take food home, I want to - saves cooking the next day.
by Anonymous1 year ago
If the food is nasty I'm not gonna finish it
by Anonymous1 year ago
Maybe then they should let me order from the children's menu.
by Anonymous1 year ago
mcdonald's and others dont exist in my country much less kids meal lol
by Anonymous1 year ago
A lot of restaurants will let me order off their lunch menu in the evening.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This happens a lot in the U.S., but it's because restaurant portions are ridiculous. One order of pasta could feed a family of four.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Me, I'm that family of four.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Some food doesn't reheat well. Leftover pasta? Absolutely! But I am not having left over sushi for breakfast tomorrow.
by Anonymous1 year ago
What kind of weirdos don't take leftovers.
by Anonymous1 year ago
portions are huge, especially in the US, so that's one reason one can't eat all of it.
maybe the person who ate only a bit of their burger and pizza didn't like it.
hence blame the restaurant if people so-call waste food. who cares if people do waste restaurant food tho; they paid for it.
by Anonymous1 year ago
the pizza is actually my favourite thing in that restaurant lol
by Anonymous1 year ago
nah im not in the US the portion size is about as much as a normal spaghetti dinner here
by Anonymous1 year ago
Its stupid if people are leaving it leftover because they think theyre too good for it--but maybe they just didnt like it all that much, too.
But for me, the idea of having leftovers at a restaurant is good, depending on the type of place you paid like what 10, 15-30 or more dollars for your meal, you want to make more than one meal out of it. When I go to the grocery store I buy enough food to eat for a while, its not that different.
I just dont think this is all that common really but maybe Im low class and only go to places where it isnt seen as tacky to ask to keep the leftovers.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The most expensive restaurant I've been to was a bill totally a couple hundred for two people. (so not cheap but not nearly as expensive as it gets)... they brought us to go boxes and even boxed our food for us 🤷🏻♀️
by Anonymous1 year ago
You can usually take food to-go to eat later
by Anonymous1 year ago
Are leftovers not a thing where you live?
by Anonymous1 year ago
with homemade food yea restaurant no
by Anonymous1 year ago
I can't imagine how boring your life must be to worry about these things. Like, who cares? How about you feel gratitude for living in a country that has enough food for people to throw away.
by Anonymous1 year ago
that's an..interesting look on things-
by Anonymous1 year ago
You spelled "logical" wrong. It's okay if that word is foreign to you.
by Anonymous1 year ago
ok anything else?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Hmmm just one more thing, I guess - consider maybe worrying more about how you can make your life better than wasting time Karening out over how much food people throw away. I can't imagine the latter is going to make your life any better.

That's it. You're welcome for my generous advice.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Or, it's their money and they can choose to eat as much as they please.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This isn't unpopular, it's crap.
You order and pay for what you want. If you can't eat it, or change your mind, it's done.
It's really none of your business champ.
by Anonymous1 year ago
maybe in the US its maybe not a big of a deal but a developing country like mine is a big hell no
by Anonymous1 year ago
Still not your money. Not your decision.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Why shouldn't we waste our food? You didn't give us any reason why it is bad.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Food waste is a serious problem, causes over pricing for every dish due to over sized portions going unused when that product could have been used in another dish. If you sell $1000 worth of food in a night the customer throws away half, that's a lot of money the restaurant could have saved if they portioned their meals properly. Lower food waste is the reason fast food chains like McDonalds do so well, they save nickels on every meal, which adds up real quick when you're serving thousands of meals an hour per state
by Anonymous1 year ago
lemme be clear here my country is a developing country in Asia so foreign export are expensive af so making even a simple dish like burger can cost a lot of money that's why we barely waste food at restaurants whereas at home it's maybe rice with a traditional dish so yea this is why i dont like to waste food here
by Anonymous1 year ago
I am curious about this because a lot of Asians I know (East, Southeast and South Asian) seem to have a culture of providing more food than their guests could possibly eat (only exception I have seen is Japanese). Curious as to where this country with next to no waste is.
by Anonymous1 year ago
if you need more ill happily explain :)
by Anonymous1 year ago
Ever considered the food isn't good?
by Anonymous1 year ago
its reasonable tbh
by Anonymous1 year ago
If they're sending back plates of food to be thrown away and not doggie bagged maybe the food sucked?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Disagree. I guess I have the American perspective on this. It's my money, I'll order as much food/whatever I want.
Would it be the polite thing to do, not to waste food? Sure. I don't even order "too much food" but I think people can do what they want with their money.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's paid for, why does it matter?
by Anonymous1 year ago
yea it's paid for but still seems like a waste of food and money
by Anonymous1 year ago
Actually, restaurants should simply prepare appropriately-portioned meals. Restaurants are responsible for their food waste - not people.
by Anonymous1 year ago
actually the dishes in my country are properly portioned cuz it's kinda expensive to make western food but people still waste it
by Anonymous1 year ago
Well, in the US the portion sizes are at least double what would be fixed at home.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Except that portion sizes differ between restaurants. This is actually impossible for an individual to evaluate.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Left overs are the best
by Anonymous1 year ago
Pretty much every restaurant I been too only have one size.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Sometimes restaurants just give you too much food. It's typical in America, i have found. When i order i try to find things that make good leftovers (i call it Reheat Value). If I'm going out and about and can't do leftovers, i try to order an appetizer as an entree, but they generally aren't very healthy.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't understand the problem, is it that it's too hard to clean?
I mean, whether they eat what they buy or not doesn't change anything, there won't be any more food for the needy or any less waste. If they don't buy that food it'll just be thrown away.
by Anonymous1 year ago
the foods are only prepared after we order
by Anonymous1 year ago
Doesn't change my points, that food would not feed more or less people. It would either sit in the fridge or be thrown out(and yes, the final product is made on demand, but the ingredients are food too).
Only thing that changes is how quickly the restaurant and everyone else on the supply chain gets money. But that's it
by Anonymous1 year ago
that's true it wouldn't feed more or less people
by Anonymous1 year ago
I never eat more than half my meal at a restaurant because I have a normal sized stomach. I'd be cool with them halving the portions at US restaurants but I can't see that happening as I know customers would complain.
