Politicians generally have zero understanding of the industries they regulate, and the non-profits who inform politicians tend to have a little more information but are horribly biased. The only ones who really understand these industries are the companies that operate in them, because if they don't understand the industry they won't survive. With that said, the big underlying question is whether a regulation or piece of legislation needs to exist; and if it doesn't don't create it. These companies are going to use their superior knowledge, and the government's ignorance, to ensure that the legislation they help create is to their benefit; and that it works against their (smaller) competition's interests.

Agree - 99.95% of politicians have no idea about how to run a business.

Corporations have a massive amount of power, and people are figuring out how to rally social media as a sort of "petition to corporations" in order to redress grievances. People are focused on the doom and gloom of social media and mob mentality, but misinformation and mob mentality have been a feature of human society for all of its existence. While people consider it to be universally bad, they forget how often this feature has been leveraged to yank the power and injustice of the rich and powerful off it's high horse. Corporations are not going away, there is no way to remove their influence from politics. But there is a way for the people to take control of it. It requires constant vigilance to ensure this valuable tool is leveraged for more *good* than *bad* \- but if we simply throw out this advantage, we as a people will lose ground in the eternal struggle between classes (because rich people will not toss out corporations).

Based but not unpopular.

> The corporations have an interest in creating shareholder value above all else Although that's not 100% correct, I'm curious if you know who mandates corporations behave like that. Moreover, if an idea is good why should it matter if it came from a corporation or individual?

The government can't create money, so countries need businesses to stay in them. Same with cities, counties, states, etc. You need to consider what businesses want because if they leave and your people don't have jobs anymore, you're in big trouble,
