Usually its played for raising money for charity. I've done some small ones and won an item, more than I paid for the ticket.

This is a lie and a scam *anecdotal evidence*!

Are you wanting anecdotal evidence?

You gave me anecdotal evidence "nobody I know has won one".
Good for you? Sucks to suck.

What is a 50/50 raffle?
by Anonymous1 year ago
They are popular at sports events. Basically tickets are sold, half the proceeds of the tickets sold go to the organization running the raffle and half go to the winner of the draw.

The only 50/50 I am familiar with I always lose-

I'm just saying, I have season tix to a few different sports, and I know a lot of the other STHs. No one has ever said or admitted they won.

I wasn't talking about raffles

It's more of scam in the way state lotteries are a scam. Not how you're thinking.

My mom won a really expensive grill from one that a company did when I was a kid. She paid like $5 for the ticket. Maybe some of them are scams, but a good chunk are real.

If you're playing the 50/50 and actually care about winning it, then you probably can't afford to play it.

I won a 50/50 raffle 2 years in a row at a crab feed fund raiser for a local fire department. The 1st year was just chance, the second year I bought a couple hundred tickets(playing cards torn in half from different decks of cards) to increase my odds, and for a good cause. I told myself if I won I'd use my winnings toward the down payment on a super cheap house. People had mixed reactions to me winning twice. I bought the house in spring 2008.

My wife and I won $600 on a 50/50 raffle at a fund raiser.
We let them keep it, it was a good cause and I was really drunk. 😄
