+145 People who pay with cash should get their own line, so they can all suffer together, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

My local Meijer was built with 30 checkout lanes and can barely keep 2 staffed β€” and you're suggesting they open a third lane?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Lol it is funny to see these huge stores with tons of check outs and now they're all empty.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

your Meijer doesn't have like 30 self check out stations as well?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah and half are broken or "waiting for the attendant" πŸ˜†

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I hate human powered checkouts. And I always pay in cash. And I'm prolly the quickest person in there.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why aren't you using self checkout ?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Actual Walmart customer: "I need to see and verbally approve each price for each item to a human. If I see a price I don't like, [I want to hiss at a human and] dispute it before I pay." Another customer: Self-checkout? I'm not checking out my own purchases unless I was paid for doing it. Another customer: Self-check out is too challenging. Bar codes? Like where? Scanner? Bagging? What? Don't cashiers do that stuff? There's too much to remember. Too many buttons to press.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If we are going to ring ourselves out we should get a discount. The gost of my groceries includes the labour of the cashier. If we aren't paying them I should be seeing less of a price no? I'm doing his/her job

by Anonymous 1 year ago

1. Shop somewhere else 2. Shut Up about discounts, no one cares if you feel like ringing yourself up is too hard to do yourself. 3. You're probably the type of customer who's rude & complains to the people working self check even though, they can't do a damn thing about it and don't care

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If they reduce the price for a self-checkout then that would remove the point of buying self-checkouts.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have to go through a manned check out line when I make purchases for work because I have to do a tax exempt purchase. I have to stand in the line with all the people you just described, and you nailed it. I always feel a little self conscious people will think I am one of those people. Trust me, if I could do self checkout for those purchases, I would in a heart beat. I once had a dude start a conversation with me about how he won't dare use a self checkout because "that's what they are paid for." I just sort of let him talk, and when he ended with something along the lines of "like, right dude?". I kinda fumbled over saying how convenient self checkout was and that I was only here because I had to. It was slightly awkward.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nah. When I used to work retail, I never had any issues with people that have tax exempt for business or an organization. Even when it was 3 carts worth of purchases, the person was still courteous and polite. Maybe I got lucky?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm not taking enough groceries for a family of three through self checkout

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is the better conversation, when is it appropriate to use self checkout. Bc I get annoyed asf over with the people there

by Anonymous 1 year ago

15 items or less.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And you better know how to use it. Way to many people don't know what their doing and that's what pisses me off too

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Everyone has to start sometime. You can't expect people to use it perfectly their first time.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You dont have to be speedy quick at first, but constantly needing help? It has directions and is pretty self explanatory. Soo

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Soo how do you know it isn't their first time? Or third time? How many times can a person use it before they have to go at the speed you find acceptable and how do you suggest they let you know they aren't at that limit yet so you can avoid being annoyed at someone who isn't doing anything wrong?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Those machines are absolute ass. The engineer that designed them couldn't get them from insisting that I did not place my item in the bagging area ITS RIGHT THERE

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Thank you for not being an asshole. More people need to follow your example.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Then don't complain when someone is using cash and you gotta wait

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Do you guys not have the large self checkouts for big loads as well?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

At Costco, yes. Any other store, no.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sounds like y'all need to get with the times

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cash is king.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The kid buying a snicker bar takes like 10 seconds max I know this because I used to do this every day after school

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Let me know when you're in line next, OP. I've got a bunch of pennies I need to get rid of. πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

by Anonymous 1 year ago

When I worked retail, I straight up turned someone away for trying to pay in change. They wanted to try and pay for a pair of shoes and a hoodie which was like 130 bucks in total with change. I told them no.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hahaha yeah there should be a reasonable limit. I mean, it IS legal tender but still...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Old people with cards take forever as well so I don't see your point ...... If it's really that big of a problem use the shelf checkout

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And I be the fear monger. When that machine your paying at goes out, and dies I can pay. When someone steals your bank info from a point of sales system you lose your money, I still have cash. So it takes me a little longer to fish out a bill, but I have the peace of mind that I didn't just get robbed. 21st century or not my friend Cash is king. I know places that are cash only. I don't know places that are card only.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've seen more machines say "card only" because they ran out of change than machines that said "cash only" because their network is down.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Probably because the demand for cash transactions was underestimated. That is a merchant issue.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Omg yes, my bank account almost got downright cleaned out one time. My bank believed that it was because I used my card at some shady chip reader without knowing it or something. All my hard earned money, gone. Thankfully I got it back. Btw I know a few places that are card only, which is stupid imo.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Some of the best small delis and restaurants in the Los Angeles metropolitan area our cash only. And I will make sure I have cash in order to enjoy what they are offering.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Same with any major metro, and small town. Go to a downtown NYC bistro or mom and pops diner in pigs knuckle Arkansas, they only still take cash

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Tbf, i don't give a rats ass how long you or anyone else has to wait because in certain establishments- i'm not paying a processing surcharge that can be avoided with cash payment for *your* convenience. Stomp, sigh, rock back and forth from one foot to another, idgaf. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

by Anonymous 1 year ago

where are you shopping that does this?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've already said where: *"because in certain establishments"* means certain establishments. Would you like names and locations?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

relax, everything's cool, no need to get so worked up lol. i just looked it up and i've never heard of this because apparently it's mostly outlawed in my state

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yes because I've never heard of a single place ever doing this

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Good for you, I know quite a few that do

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Thanks for making me need to type less

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Right, you just had to spend more time/money getting/being there. Opportunity cost

by Anonymous 1 year ago

i've been paying cash all my life. trust me --- cash is faster.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Exactly, that little old lady these cashless types hate (and generally held up as examples of what they hate) would be the little old lady trying to pay with her library card or a gift card from another store and still holding up the line.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

When I lived in rural Georgia some people would still write checks at register for their groceries!!! It was way worse than cash and I'm surprised it's still accepted in some places

by Anonymous 1 year ago

OP must be young, and not remember getting behind/checking out folks who have to write checks.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Always pay cash myself, just have the bills sorted from high to low in my wallet. it's as quick as using a card.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Sucks to be you. If I get the inclination to use cash, you are going to have to wait, it takes like 5 seconds longer. Forgetting cash in the car is no different than forgetting your card. Your life isn't that important that you can't wait a moment.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

To the typer, Check your digital privilege, BROTHER.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm surprised that you aren't mad everything isn't apple pay.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What is that, like three Granny Smith's and 6 honeycrisps for a watermelon?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Isn't this already a thing? Most stores I've visited has at least one "no cash" line.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It is.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Somehow the only irritable hold ups in my experience were card people typing their passwords on fancy special machines for 3 items total. Neither method can come close to panicky packing of groceries so we're waiting anyway

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I always have my wallet out and slip them the bills, rather than the change. Anyway, good luck with your little petition 🀣

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Jesus, talk about first world problems…

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I actually even get mad now with people that swipe or insert their card. TAP it, just TAP it. Also I'm not sure if that applies where you live but here it's maddening.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think OP just has a major patience problem. Lmfao. Also many stores where i live [ne, usa] already have separate lines for cash only or card only and it didn't make a difference in time. The machine still processes the payments within the same time. Also i dont think OP has considered how many times people have waited for card users to get declined because they used their card somewhere odd and the company turned it off or those card users who have to use 5 different cards because the other 3 were declined. If they had cash they could have saved themself the embarrassment AND time.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't get rewards points for cash.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Just use self check out. It doesn't take longer if your ready to pay.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Then there's the guy with 6 people behind him who just spent 10 minutes buying $300 worth of groceries... and whips out a check book.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

This is a bs complaint cash transactions take less time and at my business I have seen people dig for chage but also watch people go through like 5 or 6 cc cards trying to find one that has money on it also the internet goes out sometimes, don't like the wait go somewhere else or shut the hell up

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Seems to me you hate unprepared people. When I pay with cash I have that stuff ready to go, I also have my card ready to go when I use it. The point is it's quicker to be prepared with the card vs cash. Everyone hates waiting on someone or when there card declined because there to lazy to check the bank app before they go in

by Anonymous 1 year ago

For me definitely under-prepared people are a source of frustration. Like at least have your wallet out. Don't wait for the total and get it out then fiddle around looking for your wallet and then the right cash or card and then oh what account is it, oh dang what's my pin I'm not really sure...

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Man people really can't handle the smallest of inconveniences anymore. JFC.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Someone call a wambulance.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So it's not the cash thing it's just the people that can't actually pay or cause other delays. I pay with cash all the time, and I can guarantee it's faster than waiting for the car to process most of the time. But I also don't sit there and dig through my wallet or change purse to come up with exact change for 15 minutes. The ones that really can go to hell are those that for some reason still think that checks are a valid form of payment when paying in person.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Me living in a third world country: that's offensive

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cash is king. Wait for the Day your bank makes a mistake and you can't use your cards

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Trust me you don't want to eradicate the cash, that's what banks and the government want, and it's very dangerous because they can take away you access to money any time they want, look what happened in Canada. Cash might have its downsides, but damn it's realiable. I'll happily wait for that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I've had the opposite problem where I've been stuck in line behind people who couldn't use their cards properly. I remember on one occasion waiting behind some jerk whose card kept getting declined and he insisted that the cashier keep retrying it instead of just admitting that his card was over its limit. I've also been stuck behind an elderly person who couldn't remember their PIN and it took them like four tries to get the card to go through. I was also once in a grocery store behind a woman who wouldn't acknowledge the fact that the store we were at didn't accept American Express and kept trying to force the cashier to take it. At the end of the day idiots are idiots and will slow down the line no matter what method of payment they are using.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Finally, an unpopular opinion!!!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

i love paying with cash because i dont see numbers go down on my bank account

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm currently broke. Having cash on me is the only way to ensure my son gets food and that the money in my account doesn't go for charges I can't currently afford. I also have cash in hand job that will be considered to be my second job if I pay tax on it,that's 40 % taxable here, making it pointless for me to have it at all. Cash ensures I'm safe.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cash isn't the issue. The person who waits till they get their total to pull out their check and slowly start writing it is the issue.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why would paying with cash take so long?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It doesn't lol it's usually faster than debit or the exact same amount of time.

by Anonymous 1 year ago
