Sounds like you think all comedians are the ones you see on tv or internet.
Go to a local comedy show and you'll find plenty of counter examples.
by Anonymous2 years ago
I'm sure there's counter examples I just meant it overall. It gets annoying when it's not funny and that's where I'm like what was their point?
I wish I had a local comedy show where I live lol
by Anonymous2 years ago
I don't think that style of comedy is bad, I think it's just bad when it's not relatable or clever in it's execution.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Ah yes all those local comedy shows most people have in their town
by Anonymous2 years ago
Most people live in or around urban areas...by a wide margin.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Not in America

In 2020, there were approximately 57.47 million people living in rural areas in the United States, compared to about 274.03 million people living in urban areas. This is from the census.

there are local comedy shows in every town if you know where to look
by Anonymous2 years ago
Someone's never been somewhere with less than 50k people living in it
by Anonymous2 years ago
I'm from a place that had less than 20k and some bars still had comedy nights. 50k is way more than enough
by Anonymous2 years ago
By definition, most people haven't. The majority of human beings live close to or in a bit city.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Gotta agree with the other guy, the local ____ is usually in either places relying on tourism or major metro areas.
A lot of places are too small and/or broke to kind of support that scene. Maybe one bar will have a comedy night but idk, its kind of like live music.

So, your response is to complain. About them.
Okay. I'm cool with that.
by Anonymous2 years ago
The funniest people are relatable because they make light of thier past struggles.
by Anonymous2 years ago
is the only *comedian* you've ever heard of is Amy Schumer?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.
by Anonymous2 years ago
… all comedians do is GET PAID to complain… don't be jealous get paid
by Anonymous2 years ago
And also they love complaining about things aren't going along with their political agendas and how "the other side" sucks
by Anonymous2 years ago
Most comedy actually has the formula of cause and effect, the effect often times being misery. One of the oldest forms of filmed comedy is Slapstick which literally follows that formula of cause (Jerry hits Tom with an Iron skillet) and effect (Tom let's out an excruciating scream of pain). People tend to laugh at misery and that in itself is at the core of stand up comedy. Its often the comedian talks about a, sometimes relatable, sometimes less so, life issue they or others have and they phrase it in such a way that people tend to find it comedic. Either the issue at hand, the solution or just simply the story itself is seen as comedic and that makes people laugh.

Yeah, sure. Generally speaking, observational comedy relies heavily on making fun of human behavior as a whole, and ranting about it is a very effective way to make the jokes land easier, cause it makes them more relatable I guess. But not all comedians are like that, obviously.
But on the other side of the spectrum, I really dislike clean comedy. It bores me.
by Anonymous2 years ago
What about Brian Regan?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Agreed clean stuff sucks!
by Anonymous2 years ago
Bargatze is great
by Anonymous2 years ago
Yeah I don't even think he curses to the best of my memory. It's his cadence, his ability to make fun of himself, and the ability to show the silliness in how seriously some people take everyday life that makes it so relatable.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Stand up comedy is all about story telling. The complaint narrative style is very popular among televised stand up routines, but there's so much more out there.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Remember when jokes used to be racist? Me neither
by Anonymous2 years ago
I think there's a fair amount who don't, but unfortunately most mainstream comedy has become this. Especially when comedians get an ego and think they're too good to deal with normal people problems.
by Anonymous2 years ago
But your not being funny?
by Anonymous2 years ago
Yeah it really sounds like the comedians you listen to suck.
by Anonymous2 years ago
You're funny
by Anonymous2 years ago
relatable comedy is the best comedy and what's more relatable than sharing a negative experience
by Anonymous2 years ago
It's called irony
by Anonymous2 years ago
Satire is my favorite.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Gabriel Iglesias just has a lot of amazing stories.. I don't think he complains
by Anonymous2 years ago
Most of them do just complain. But they complain in a way that resonates with audiences and makes them laugh. It may appear easy, but it's not. Go ahead and go to open mic night and try to "just complain" and you'll be booed off stage within minutes.

Tragedy+Time=Comedy in today's world where things happen so fast time can easily mean days or even hours
by Anonymous2 years ago
I guess the jokes on you
by Anonymous2 years ago
They are comedians, they get paid to make jokes. The politicians are the ones who get paid to solve the problems.
by Anonymous2 years ago
It's therapy for them!
by Anonymous2 years ago
Someone having a really good day where nothing went wrong isn't funny.
Laughter comes from pain, and that doesn't have to be from something huge, that can be a small annoyance. Where things go wrong is where the comedy is found and it's cathartic to laugh about those things.
