Im not paying $260 in cleaning fees for 2 nights in someones backyard cottage

Some even want to to do chores now like bring out the garbage lmao… screw that. I'll book a hotel with more transparent pricing and get points towards free nights in the mean time. Airbnb has done nothing but go down hill.

You forgot that it removes valuable assets from the market in local areas. Not so much jacking prices up, but effectively taking an available home and removing it from the market so an actual family who would like to buy a home can't, because it is reserved for vacation renters... THIS is the biggest issue with them. At least, in my opinion.

There was a particular room across town I loved and stayed in several times. It was taken off the market because the host's brother was moving here from Florida. A good reason to shut down.

I agree, but I mention that in my first sentence, it has the same issue as renting for profit, just meeting different demand. Vacationers instead of renters. I would say my one major gripe is with massive airbnb companies (you know those places out of Florida that buy up 400 homes on the coat strictly for short term rentals).

Renting allows long-term tenants to actually work in the area they live. Case in point, I have a winter destination resort city near me. Most employees that work there have to commute from neighboring towns as there are no places available within their price range. I'm talking a 1 bed 1 bath apt going for well over 2500/month. If the short term rentals were switched to actual rentals, then a 4 bed/3 bath normally going for 4000 actually becomes affordable. Not even going to get started on the price gouging, but there are plenty of bedrooms and baths to be had, but the short term rentals market has a monopoly nowadays.

Because they have no friends to travel with? This is the stupidest defense of ABNB I've heard yet. Thanks for that!

Airbnb for large groups (4+), hotels for solo or couple travel.

Who wouldn't want to start of their vacation by looking for hidden cameras?

These are pretty weak arguments on why it is. People in groups do get more than one room but usually whats in their price range they can afford but usually 2 queens with a couch also that sometimes turns into a bed for 3 so no one should literally rent out 4-5 , legit 2 is enough and 3 maybe if a couple of a group wants alone time. And highly doubt any group of young friends are gonna have a person who is gonna wanna cook for their group or a parent or lover who wants to do the cooking while on vacation. That's why people don't care when they order pizza or eat out or grab simple from the store like sandwich stuff or something. Not to mention literally all about vacation is the destination and the area around it not where you're staying and people who do get airbnbs are those who just want to party one night or staying out there for awhile for more than pleasure.

It's completely overpriced now. Too many fees.

Meh it depends on how you're traveling and how much the host expects of you. I got an AirBnB for a small midwestern city this summer and it was great. Much easier to make food for and feed the baby. Plus she could sleep in a separate room. We were just asked to do up our dishes and put the towels in the laundry basket. That was all fine and good. But some hosts are a bit extreme with the chores and what they charge.
