+141 Non-science based, peer reviewed medical treatments should be illegal, banned and enforced, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I am not a believer in alternative medicine or whatever you want to call it but you really ought to look at statistics on reproducibility of medical trials. They are scary. I don't really believe researchers are largely being dishonest but the human body is a difficult system to work with and there are many uncontrolled variables.

I don't really see a huge problem with them. If someone is stupid enough to believe herbal tea will cure cancer better than chemo, then I think it's fair to say that they won the Darwin Award and let natural selection do its thing. Besides, regardless of whether or not they actually work, those teas are low key pretty delicious, and some of the rocks they sell are aesthetically pleasing.

What about parents that deny their sick kids the treatment that can save their life, only because they have faith on alternative methods? That should definitely be illegal. You shouldn't get to play with your child's life like that

unenforceable

There's a reason some of these "hocus pocus" treatments have been around for centuries. The placebo effect is real and I don't think it should be discounted. I definitely don't think that because you don't understand these strange cures, they should be outlawed.

Adding a bit of lemon to tea is a long prescribed treatment to ward off colds in my family. Are you suggesting a national enforced ban on lemons in tea? Holding your breath is considered a treatment for hiccups. How do you propose to enforce a national ban on holding your breath? Rubbing the pressure point between your index finger and your thumb to relieve headaches is likely a placebo effect. How do you intent to enforce a ban on rubbing your own skin?

All three things you mentioned I'm pretty sure are actually proven by science OP's is clearly talking about outlawing selling alternative and non-proven methods to desperate people. That's the kind of stuff that should be outright illegal. It doesn't bring anything good to society. No mystical energy is curing cancer. World's just too full of scammers

by Anonymous 2 years ago

"No mystical energy is curing cancer." So we are talking about a national ban on prayer?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

No. But a ban on prayer being allowed to be the prescribed treatment for an illness? Yes. Imagine going into a doctor with a flu and instead of medicine they just bring out a rabbi and have him pray over you and tell you to go home.

So chemo is the only way to approach cancer?? It has been proved that if you have a big family and a lot of friends to support your battle against cancer you a WAY bigger chance to survive the disease , I don't temember exact numbers but maybe 30% , how do you meassure that doctor X ? Or being optimistic will make the body fight harder ?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You just did? Like that's irrelavent for 2 reasons. Having bigger families is just having support and not the kind of hocus pocus treatment OP is on about. Secondly, if you could get that that 30% figure you've just shown this "treatment" works. You don't have to show how it works or anything other than it does
