i rarely have a problem with it. To be honest im normally surprised at how good it is, even in low light!

Its probably easier to fake a face id than a fingerprint what with deepfakes becoming more and more indistinguishable from reality

Hmm I have a hand me down galaxy S8 and the face ID works perfectly but still can register finger prints anyway

that laser iris scanner was pretty nifty and years ahead of its time
by Anonymous1 year ago
Total opposite for me. Face ID always works and Thumb ID failed often.
I guess my thumbs suck. Maybe your face sucks.

Ive never once had a problem with face ID. (Except during covid with the masks. That was a pain)
Have you tried resetting it? You might have captured a bad picture the first time.

Recalibrate the Face ID if it isn't working right. I grew a beard that was throwing it off. I recalibrated it and it works great.
by Anonymous1 year ago
For me it works fine
by Anonymous1 year ago
Never had a problem across 2 devices. Only time I wasnt recognised was because my hand or something was int he way. Which you expect. If you are having problems with it, it might just be your phone. Or it might just need to be recalibrated.

I miss the home button, I hate Face ID

worst part about face ID is that i'm rarely looking at my phone well enough for it to work, and it has to be in daylight, AND if im wearing a mask it won't work. worst part about when it doesn't work is that it takes like 10-15 seconds for the password screen to show up. wish there was a fast option to pull up the password screen!
for maybe 6-8 months when i would wear masks all the time i just turned off face id and finally, peace. i just wish touch id would come back tho, i have it on my mac and it works beautifully. only turned face id back on bc it works about 80 percent of the time, which is enough for me.

Fingerprint is still king, faster and more reliable in my opinion
by Anonymous1 year ago
and more secure. i'm clutching my 8 for all its worth as i don't want to lose TouchID. 🤣 (but the time is drawing near…)

Face ID really really really sucked when Covid started and masks became the norm,
by Anonymous1 year ago
Does it only allow Face ID not finger or your code ?
by Anonymous1 year ago
You technically need a code regardless, unsure if face is required, probably not.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's either
* Face ID and Passcode / Password
* Passcode only
* Password only
* No security
(Unless you have an iPhone SE or an older phone with Touch ID - then replace face ID with touch ID in the first sentence)
by Anonymous1 year ago
Don't they give you the option not to use it?
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's a love/hate. At time when it works it's great. But wearing a mask at work doesn't recognize and if I'm multitasking and the phone is laying on my desk, I just want to enter the OIN and not have to duck with picking it up, filing, pulling down my mask, failing, and finally offering to enter PIN
by Anonymous1 year ago
Agree, terrible.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You don't have to use Face ID....
by Anonymous1 year ago
They're removing fingerprint for it...
by Anonymous1 year ago
Just.. type in a passcode?
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'm not spending 7 seconds to open my phone just so I can brag that I buy Apple products.
by Anonymous1 year ago
mine has literally never missed, other than if i have the "need eye contact" setting on and don't look. but that's literally a choice. it has NEVER not worked when i looked at it normally
by Anonymous1 year ago
The fingerprint ID is garbage too
by Anonymous1 year ago
Works perfectly here. You can always turn it off and use the passcode.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You could scan a blobfish, and it would register that as your face.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I miss the little drawing thing you could set for Samsung phones. Fast, secure and worked every time.
by Anonymous1 year ago
>I prefer ed the fingerprint or the 4digit pass (or nothing).
These are still on iPhones. Please explain how an optional feature has made your device worse, when you don't *have* to use it?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Fingerprint isnt on iphone but 4-digit passcode is so i agree i dont understand op's point if he literally mentioned he prefers 4-digit passcodes
