+167 Football would be a great deal more enjoyable to watch without the constant prattle of sports announcers, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Somebody just watched SNF with Chris Colonsworth.

I could handle the announcers without the constant interruption of commercials. Also radio announcers are 99% better, so you could turn up the radio and mute the tv.

It's so annoying, I want sound on to hear the game but yeah the announcers are so irritating. They also just ramble so much more than *back in my day* (grandpa voice)

As a somewhat introverted person, these guys come across to me as people who didn't get enough love as children and have made it their life's mission to always be the center of attention.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Nonsense.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's a job lol. They're just former players that were bad with their money.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The game had so many big plays it didn't feel the same without announcers .

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Watch the highlight reel it's usually 10-14 minutes and has mostly all the plays

"And it's 2nd and 10 for James Quaternary. This is his 15th run of the season. 12 and oh, from the line of scrimmage. He's facing a 9 and 13 record of the opposing team. And if he doesn't … oh, and James passes it looooong AND IT'S CAUGHT AND DOWN AT THE 5 yard line! The crowd is standing and cheering here at sports park arena!" ^^^ That's all I hear, over and over and over again from the sports announcers of American football. I know I got the matching of actual terms incorrect, but the above matches the exact tone and pace of words I hear from announcers. Even when you're at the game, sitting in the stands, there's still an announcer. I'm with OP, on this one. Despite what's been tried, I'd still prefer just the sound of: crowd, refs, and game.

Announcers aren't the problem, ads are. Watch 60 minutes sans ads. Game changer, no pun intended.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Hell no you crazy fool! I'm trying to watch the World Cup on peacock and it's in Spanish. I can barely watch it at all, so I tried muting it and it was worse. No atmosphere killed the feel of the game for me

by Anonymous 1 year ago

⚽️ or 🏉?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm guessing American version, considering I'm confused at the terms and I watch the other sport a lot.

In the 1970s NBC did a game with no announcers, trying to recreate the experience of being at the stadium. The idea sucked and it was poorly received, and no one has been stupid enough to do that again.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

1980, Jets v. Dolphins. Loved the idea, watched, and it sucked.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The tv announcers are almost all trash. They offer very little with their conversation.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I have seen this on the BBC, either the red button or iplayer. It seems OK but at times you don't really know what is going on. It is different to being at a game though as you lack any real atmosphere.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

guess it is very useful to people who have eyesight problems, or are blind. Sometimes, a thing irrelevant to us, or even annoying might be a lifesaver to someone else.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Or just people who don't know a lot about football.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Does your telly not have a volume control?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah, I turn it down or mute it most of the time so I don't have to hear the announcers, but I want to hear the game.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You may already know but Peyton and Eli do their own show for Monday night football. They still talk a decent amount but it's not nearly as much of a narration of the game. They also have three people come on and do interviews. It's not exactly what you're looking for but I prefer it.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

But how would you know that you need to catch the ball to make a completion? Or that if you don't score enough points you won't win?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No doubt!!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

They did that before in the 80's and it was horrible. Everyone hated it . The game had so many big plays it didn't feel the same without announcers . The video clip can be found on YouTube

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Not unpopular. A true unpopular opinion is "sports are not enjoyable ever".

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Is some kind of soccer tournament going on right now like the world cup or something? Or maybe it just went on recently. Anyway, that's all I could hear people Yap about. I f****** hate spectators sports of all types, and yeah I would agree the announcers just make it worse. Why are these dumb jocks glorified so much? It's a bunch of dumb herdism and tribalism. All those millions of dollars that are wasted on sports every year could solve most of this country's problems

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The manning cast cures this issue.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Oh man, Football "soccer" would be a different game without Mexican announcers, just gotta have the right guys. But I disagree, especially if it's a retired player that everyone loved =:3

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed all they do is kiss ass and it's annoying

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Mute the sound (You're welcome.)

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe just kick Tony Romo out of the booth and it would be better 😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Everything is more entertaining than the actual game lmao.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

While coverage usually last roughly 3 hours, the actual run time of a football game, from snap to tackle, is 11 minutes…they're mostly standing around, in the huddle, etc.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well yes but then how would they stream the game over the radio?
