That's not it though. People who love it think it's cool to adore it for whatever reason they can't even explain why that's my issue here.

They adore it cause they like the film. The heck is hard to understand? You have different tastes, no big deal, move on, watch something else.

> maybe I'm too young
honestly this is more likely the case. depending on how old you are, you may or may not care about some of the story elements. there are plenty of movies that i enjoy and rave about now which i would not have understood or appreciated when i was younger.
that being said... i'm not a huge fan of PF either. but i recognize it's qualities. it's a pretty good film. but, like a lot of tarntino's movies, it moves at a slow pace and spends a lot of time world- and character-building. then it meanders a bit, maybe there's a 17-minute scene where someone whistles, and then there is a bombshell climax that leaves you on the edge of your seat.
if you are young there i also the classic "lack of attention span" possibility. everyone says that "young kids these days don't have any attention span!" i'll agree to that but also include older people in this collective. phones and the internet have ruined MY attention span, too.
PF came out in the mid/late '90s right? well, people were more interested in sitting in a movie theater for 2-1/2 hours for a long buildup. people just don't really have the patience for that in 2022. so it takes a little more patience and dedication to get through an older film sometimes.

Each scene has a way of appearing in your own life to a degree. You may be correct in your current inability to relate to dialogue or situations due to your age. No worries, you're paying attention and that's a great sign

I'm 25 and an avid Film watcher. I love Cinematography. But I caught myself easily distracted watching it. The dancing scene in the Diner between Vincent and Mia was just so weird, no chemistry between the two characters and it was like a Father taking his Daughter out to eat it just didn't feel right.
There's no development of each character. Vincent for instance was such an interesting character but there's no development or backstory and all he done was tell them to clean up the Car and wash themselves as if they couldn't do that without him. I mean, really?

I was so young when I saw it I really don't remember. But for whatever reason, deserves or not, it's one of the most iconic films in history

Depth is not required. Just Pulp.

When I first saw it, I didn't get it. I tried to place it as a serious movie and it isn't. I can see how it's boring, but on second viewing, it's funny as hell. I think Avatar is overrated, but here it was winning awards.

It definitely is humours in parts. I agree with you Avatar is overrated.

I, a big Tarantino Fan, watched Pulp Fiction with my roommate who had never seen it. He has great taste in film and TV, so I was super pumped.
All the way through he had a "meh" expression, and at the end said it was kinda boring.
It didn't ruin the film for me, but it defo made me rate it slightly less just purely because of his real time reaction.
Moral of the story: don't share the things you love.
by Anonymous2 years ago
That's why I was so hesitant to watch it due to its popularity. I didn't want to be disappointed.

Yeah my roommate and I's theory is that he waited too long to see it. At 23, pop culture had already taught him every story beat and motif, as well as all the good lines. Whereas I, at 14, had my mind blown because I was too young to have seen everything that was influenced by it. I think it really is something you fundamentally have to be unaware of for it to blow your mind.

I genuinely wonder how many times this opinion has been shared

Tarantino, especially in his early work, used disjointed narratives and highly dynamic (sometimes understated, sometimes exaggerated) dialogue to keep viewers intrigued and even a little uncomfortable. It's true that not everyone gets it, and not everyone is entertained by it. To me, that makes it even more unique and special.

That scene with the gimp did not age well...
by Anonymous2 years ago
I agree. Throughout most of the movie I felt like it wasn't going anywhere, it felt like a bunch of sideplots glued together. The ending was great though
