+140 Giving a card to someone you can physically see, is stupid, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I still have cards from deceased family members. I could physically see them at the time, but time moves on. I can no longer see them, but their written words are still with me.

This is a beautiful sentiment, well put!

It was a big deal before the internet and when it was hard to call people because of long distance calling prices. Card giving will decline drastically once boomers and gen x die off.

Some people hold onto b-day cards as keepsakes. B-Day cards also double as the "money holder" for some.

Holding onto a card is quite a sentimental thing. You never know when it's going to be the last one you get from someone.

i have some old old cards that people in my great grandparents generation gave to people my grandparents generation. not all have messages but some do and it's cool to read them. whether they were handed to them in person or not i can't say but they're still cool to have.

Sadly crosses Useless Apparatus off his Christmas card list...goes on with life.

nope. I can save your card. It has your signature on it and your well wishes. I cannot save your Happy Birthday, Merry xmas, Happy Hanukah, or Happy valentines day. That is the reason we give cards. Its oral history translated into written history.

It depends. There are people who give all their acquaintances a very boring standard card with just two words written inside and that is just pointless. But if someone carefully selected a nice card for you and wrote a meaningful message inside than I think that's lovely! I still have a lot of my friends cards from years ago. Also, they don't need to be expensive, I make my Christmas cards myself with some simple calligraphy.
