Predicting a plot twist in a piece of media, does not make it a badly written story. Rather, the opposite. amirite?

Idk man I predict them all. It's a curse.

I guess I also hate it just as much when there's absolutely zero foreshadowing and it feels like just a random decision out of nowhere. I think it's just a sweet spot between hard to predict and impossible to predict and very few pieces of media hit it.

There absolutely is a sweet spot, and that sweet spot really can make or break a story.

At the same time, a twist that's more predictable may not necessarily mean that show was badly written. Of course, there are twists out there that are just plain bad, and are badly written, but there's a wide enough ground that I think predicting a plot twist isn't enough to determine if a show is good or not

Yes it does. A plot twist is by its very definition unexpected. If your plot twist is predictable its therefore either badly written or not a plot twist.

plot twist
noun
an unexpected development in a book, film, television programme, etc.

By that definition if the plot twist is predictable it is bad writing if you where going for that. Otherwise it's just the plot.

Understandable. Then I believe there is a middle ground, as well as more common misunderstanding of what a plot twist is.

Like I said, there are people who can predict and pick up on hints, and there are people who don't typically do that. My mother is real good at seeing ahead, and predicting the plot or the next 'plot twist', whereas I am usually surprised no matter what. So it begs the question, how can you classify that as a plot twist, or as just the plot? It seems to vary from person to person.

Perhaps the people I see complaining about predictable plot twists are just complaining about the plot development being a bit predictable. But going into the conversation of what makes a plot twist a plot twist by definition seems like an interesting conversation

I prefer a carefully planted Chekhov's gun to low effort deus ex machinas.
