+133 What's insane about music is that it's one-dimensional, amirite?

I would argue that it is also 4d. It moves along the xyz access from a point in time (the 4th dimension).

I think time is its only dimension. It's the one

Sound is vibration in the air. Frequency is the measure of how many times the sound wave's peak moves through the air past a certain point.

the signal that drives the speaker is one-dimensional and can only be represented by a line i don't know enough about ears to tell you this - but i imagine the brain signal that converts the vibrating eardrum into perceived sound is also represented as a line, or a series of lines

The inner ear has a bunch of hairs that resonate at different frequencies. AFAIK our brain is told which frequencies there are, how loud they are, and what phase they have. So there's a lot more info than a single line per ear.

So music is at least 2D right? Sound (1st Dimension) over time (2nd Dimension).

i remember zooming in on audacity as a kid and being blown away that all music was just a line zigzagging in intricate patterns
